I've read this in a couple threads.....the Idina thread, of course. And I do think that Idina's speech was great....but Ms. Rashad's speech.....
First of all, I have never seen someone so collected but her speech seemed VERY well put together to me. I mean, maybe it was the product of advance planning but I thought it was very well done....
I agree: Ms. Rashad was so dignified and glamorous--she is truly a class act. I also thought that Michael Cerveris (sp?) gave a wonderful acceptance speech--very gracious

My dad's eyes were rolling all through her speech. But to each their own. I actually really liked Anika Noni Rose and Idina Menzels' speeches, even if they didn't seem as planned.
Both ladies from RAISIN were very graceful and elegant. It was very nice to see. :)
Mr. Mays without a doubt and Michael Cerveris
I thought it was so sweet that Idina mentioned Kristin in the way she did and said such wonderful things about her. Seeing Kristin about to cry was making ME tear up.
And Mr. Cerveris was funny.
I was listening to Rashad's speech and was thinking to myself. "I wouldn't want to have to be in the pit playing the music over Rashad's speech if it goes too long."
I liked Rashad's speech, my dad thought it was awful and that she came off like a snob.
I didn't like Rashad's speech.
I don't like it when people seem like they're acting when doing their speeches.
There's a time and place for acting.
Shouldn't a Best Actress winner know that?
I loved Menzel's speech.
"my beautiful husband who tells me he loves me everytime I feel like I'm being a huge loser"
Maybe not the most eloquent line in the world, but definitely from the heart.
I must have seen a different speech than you guys. I went back and watched it again and it was a very nice, "classy" acceptance speech from an incredibly graceful lady.
Now go watch the awards scene in ALL ABOUT EVE again.
Suleen, I can't take anything you say seriously with that pic! Where did you find that??
Rashad's speech was magnificently delivered and I adore her in everything I've seen her in. Yet I couldn't help but feel like she was delivering an audition monologue. There is such a thing as being too classy and dignified, almost as if she had expected to win all along. On the other hand, it's not often you see such composure and class from anyone on TV, so I'll chalk it up to my cynicism. She did a great job.

I loved Idina's speech and most of the speeches that did not seem planned...they all came from the heart and were more touching that the prepracticed ones.
I think everyone was surprised with Idina thanking Kristin in her speech and the way in which she did. Truly a class act regardless of the behind the scenes drama with the two divas.
Well, I think that one of the speeches given by some guy winning for 'I Am My Own Wife' (it wasn't Jefferson on this one) was kind of inappropriate. I mean, yes, the point he was trying to make (gay marriage should be allowed) was a very good one, but right at the exact moment he started saying it, the orchestra started up and he closed with something I thought was a little idiotic. "What if Charlotte wanted to marry Alfred?" (something like that) The guy had trouble collecting his thoughts to put all that out there anyway, so it didn't work out at all. Just a thought.
"Behind the scene drama??" What is this? I thought they were friends both on and off the stage...
And PR's speech came of horribly snobby to me. Sheesh.
My dad as Idina during her acceptance speech: "Kristen, you just light up that stage....but IIII won the tony...nahnahnahnahnahnah."
I loved Idina and Anika Noni Rose's. Michael Cerveris' was my favorite. Jefferson Mayes' was classy. *Phylicia Rashaad....her speech sounded SOOOOO rehearsed. It was GOOD. But REHEARSED.
*spelled that REALLY wrong the first time
I liked Jackman's speech. His tribute to the Australian actor who originated the role was a classy touch - as was his dedication of the award to Peter Allen.
she was not acting. She was composed and she knew what she wanted to say. I think she was eloquent and got her point across very well.

i think that idina's speech was very touching and from the heart.
I thought Idina's speech was wonderfully real and from the heart. She is wonderfully talented and extremely hard-working, and I think she absolutely deserved that award. I have to say though, I think my favorite speech was by Brian F. O'Byrne for Frozen. He opted not to thank anyone, mentioned that he had the best role on Broadway, and used the rest of his time to plug Frozen. There was just something so amusing in that to me.
All of the speeches were wonderful. Just about all of them really set the bar for acceptance speeches, both in content and heart. The only crap speech was that abortion of a comment about an important issue that came out of the Best Play acceptance.
