But the people who saw it today for the first time, and there were audience members there who were seeing it for the first time, most assuredly found it as funny as those who saw it on its opening night 6 years ago. Most people, unlike us, do not see shows multiple times.

No show or movie will ALWAYS be funny. As I have stated in other threads, The Producers is the show that got me into theatre and brought me into it. It is in my top 5 of favorite shows, but it's not ALWAYS funny. I mean, do you really think Tony Danza was funny in it? And if anyone did think that, it was mostly becuase of how rotten he was.
I love the show and I am very saddened by it's closing, but it's time for it to go, just like Beauty and the Beast, and Phantom needs to take a lesson from the both of them and get off the stage. It's horrible now.

Posted: 4/22/07 at 8:42pmActually Tony wasn't that bad. He was no Nathan Lane, but he put 110% into the role, which was appreciated more than some of the Max's that were more suited for the role but just walked through it.

Posted: 4/22/07 at 9:39pmOh come on, not the effort argument. I don't judge an actor's performance by the effort put into it. Sure, I appreciate that he works hard and really wants to be good. But that doesn't make him good. I'd prefer to see a good actor walk through the role or at least get the gist of it rather than blunder through it with 110% effort.

That's nice, but it has a huge impact on how I view a performance. To each their own.
Overall, I put the most blame on the Producer's casting team or whoever thought up the idea of bringing in Tony in the first place.

Is it just me, or did this show end with very little fanfare when you consider how popular it was at one time? I've never been a fan of the show and did not think it deserved the number of Tonys it received. I'm glad to see it go.

I do agree with you on that sidney. I expected a little more hoopla. BaTB is closing in 3 months and the "see it before it's gone" ads have been running like crazy on the radio. I heard my first Producers ad yesterday. I was shocked they didn't promote it more.

Posted: 4/22/07 at 10:23pmTony Danza actually did a very admirable job. He might not be the best singer, dancer, or actor, but he successfully conveyed everything that needed to be conveyed in portraying Bialystock.

It's not illegal if you don't get caught.

Not if the theatre employees tell allow it
!
Honestly, as soon as it ended everybody & their mother had a camera or cell phone out recording and taking pictures of everything. So you'll be seeing alot of it.
Trust me I'm the last person to be illegal in any way, I was even wary of doing it even when everyone else was seemingly allowed too.
