current rent cast

i was lucky enough to be over in NY from the UK a few weeks ago and saw rent one of my favourite musicals....i have to say i thought it was brilliant...i know there is a discussion going on further down the board about drew lachey and i would just like to say i thought he was great...he played the part so much better than any of the actors i have seen play it in England....in fact the entire cast was better than any I have seen over here and I have seen it 4 times.....does anyone agree??

I didn;t mind drew at all. He was definatelly not the best mark i have seen but not the worst either.

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I HATED HATED HATED HATED HATED HATED DREW LACHEY!

He *almost* killed La Vie Boheme. He would have, but that song is so damn good that its pretty unkillable, so it lived. But during Goodbye Love, I couldn't help but hoping that Jeremy Kushnier (who was Roger when I saw it) would beat the crap out of him. Sad to say that didn't happen...

Anyway, Mark is my FAVORITE character by far, and that last time I saw Rent Mark was played by the brilliant Andy Meeks. So I'm probably biased, lol.

Still, the man is bad stunt casting. To be fair, he can hit the notes fine. He can sing the songs. However, you can't understand an effin' word he says and and he plays Mark as the biggest loser ever... when he plays the character at all. He is just NOT Mark. Though, I'm certain he's an infinite improvement on Scary Spice.

Other than that, the cast was decent. I didn't like the Benny at all, really, and Collins was just ok, but I thoroughly enjoyed Jeremy's Roger, loved Krystal's Mimi and whoever played Angel, and ADORED the Maureen and Joanne (when they sang 'Take Me or Leave Me' you could FEEL they're energy vibrating throughout the theater! It was AWESOME!). I had a great evening when I saw it (minus Drew Lachey), but I have to say the tour is 10 times better. The energy that vibrated through the theater in 'Take Me or Leave Me' on Broadway could be felt throughout the entire show when performed by the tour. So, yeah... :/
