Posted: 11/16/04 at 1:10amThere's a song Kristin sings on the Steel Pier soundtrack, called "Two Little Words." Not sure how high the last note is, but it sounds higher than her highest note on "Glitter and Be Gay."

It's not five octaves. Keep in mind, an entire piano is only seven octaves and two notes, so if someone really had a five octave range, they would need to sing exceptionally LOW as well.
The highest note I've ever heard her sing is the optional E that she did at the end of 'No One Mourns the Wicked' both times I saw her in Wicked. The lowest note I've heard her sing is the G in her reprise of 'I'm Not That Girl'. Based solely on that, her range is two octaves and six. I would guess that she can sing slightly higher and slightly lower than that. I bet it would be safe to say three octaves.

Posted: 11/16/04 at 10:37amlol honesty is all well and good. No, i'm not saying you're wrong, because you're entitled to your own opinions. I gotta say though, a lot of your posts make me sad. I hardly ever see you post anything POSITIVE, and all you seem to talk about is how RENT sucks, Adam sucks, Daphne sucks, Kristin sucks, Wicked sucks, EVERYTHING sucks! It's not good to harbor so much negativity =) Are you ok, buddy? I'm only pointing this out because I care!

hmmm... no.. rent doesn't suck.... the current state of the production sucks.. daphne doesn't suck.. she is just way too over the hill to play mimi again... adam pascal can't act.. wicked doesn't suck.. it's just not the second coming.. kristin doesn't suck... but some people need to realize that there are other actoresses out there besides kritin and idina.. and some of themw ill play glinda and elphaba and ever *gasp* play them better!
I am not negative most of the time. you might just only read certain threads.

A friend of mine said that she claimed to have 6 octaves, but a piano only has 7 and 2 notes, so I don't think that's true.
When I asked Kristin if she was a coloratura, she said she was, so I'm guessing (since I'm a coloratura too) that her range is probably G below middle C to the F or G above high C, maybe even A above high C because her upper range is pretty strong. I've heard her sing "Glitter and Be Gay" and she didn't seem to have any problem with the Es, so I'm assuming she at leasts has a G above high C in her voice.

The last note of "Two Little Words" is an E above high C.
The last note of "No One Mours..." on the CD is a B.
The Last note of "No One Mours..." during most live performances is an E above high C.

Posted: 11/16/04 at 4:39pmI believe there's a Broadway.com interview where the question is something along the lines of "Do you get to use your whole 4 octave range in this show..." and she answered yes. I've always heard she has 4.

I remember that Q&A as well. I'm pretty sure she said she has a 4 octave range. I'll check to be sure, though.
Oh, and the final note she hit at her final performance in Wicked at the end of "No One Mourns the Wicked" was insane. I have a recording of that performance on 3 CDs--no, I was not there.
Also, I remember when I saw the show back in April, her note at the end of "No One Mourns..." was higher than it is on the CD, but not by much. Although her note at the end of "Thank Goodness" was hellaciously high.

lol! i seem to have started a debate! or at least a civil arguement--thanx to everyone who actually answered my question. EverythingisRent, you rock! bg2, well, EiR seemed to cover it--thanx for your opinion though. PLum-thanx for the defense. so, it seems that the most recurring answer is that she can at least go to a G below middle C, and a G above high C. if that's true, cool! we have the same range! lol. lighten up everyone, positivity is not a crime.

Posted: 11/16/04 at 7:06pmAs for the lower end of her range, the end of the I'm Not That Girl Reprise seems pretty dang low for her being such a strong soprano
