I think it did...
Yes. They did a couple stops Asia, but the rest of the tour fell through and didn't continue to Europe as planned.

The supposed "world tour" occurred in late '05 and early '06 with only some Asian stops, after which the tour folded. It never made it to any of the cities in Europe which had been advertised. The tour was pretty much a disaster for all involved.
wow... anyone else have more details as to what went wrong?
It DID happen, if Im not wrong it went to:
Beijing
Hong Kong
Seoul
and more places which I forgot
with
Jeremy Kushnier
Trey Ellet
Karen Mok
Caren Lyn Manuel
Andy Senior
...etc
I for one saw the show on X'Mas night in Hong Kong and thought the cast was really gd (esp Caren!) but the show was abit boring at times!
*They* did a world tour a few years back, that was very successful. It didn't go to Europe, because at the same time RENT had just closed on the West End, so they didn't see the need in it touring so soon over there.
The past 2006 world tour was only in Asia.
*I put I instead of THEY the first time. My mistake. (I wasn't in the show, I'm just affiliated with it)
There was a German company that toured the country in 1999 -- Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hannover, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munchen. The show was translated and a CD released that summer.

IAmMyOwnMusical, what World tour are you talking about? Who was in it? The only true World Tour there has been was the one I mentioned previously that took place late '05 and early '06. That was the one that originally was schedule to begin in Asia then travel to many other countries. Like I said, it folded, still in Asia, and the cast couldn't wait to get back to the U.S. This was the Jeremy Kushnier, Trey Ellett, Dominique Roy, Caren Lyn Manuel tour. Who was in the one you're talking about from a few years ago??
erinrebecca just curious... why couldn't the cast wait to get back home? was it bad working conditions?
Erin I'm talking about the one you are. but 2005 WAS a few years ago, lol. it's 2007 now, last time I checked.
And the Asia tour didn't fold. It was actually very successful. but scheduling conflicts arose, so they decided to cut out the rest of the dates (there were many reasons for this)
Plus the West End is about to launch a new production of RENT anyways...so there was no need for the tour to hit Europe (at this moment anyway)
What about this European tour?

So goes the rumour. Nothing official has been announced, but there are "those in the know" who insist a new production is coming later this spring. We shall see. ^_^
Lizzie,
I'm talking about a completely different tour altogether. The Asian tour WAS going to be a COMPLETE world tour. But they ultimately decided to just have individual companies, instead of touring the same production. It's also much easier to do that because of all the language barriers.
And yes, there is a production set for the West End currently. Who knows what may happen.
I heard some time back that Jo Ampil is goin to play Mimi in RENT somewhere.. tour? or WE? I forgot... and so was Ramin Karimloo was goin to be Roger (which is going to be SO perfect!) but then he quit ~
Anyway, the World Tour cast was REALLY gd, I mean cuz I didn't really expect anything from it. It wasnt that well received in Hong Kong by the audiences though the press loved it. Our Hong Kong star Karen Mok was much better than I thought she would be as Mimi. She can defo sing but can't act. I had a really gd chat with the cast after the performance and I drew them farewell cards with their cariacatures on and they loved it! Caren was so happy she dug deep into her backpack and gave me her solo CD (which was WONDERFUL btw!)
I think Trey Ellet was gd, Jeremy was amazing though I think he might be abit too old for the role. Caren was AMAZING! Though I didn't like Andy Senior's Angel... extremely bland for me, maybe he played the role too many times. I was abit disappointed that there was no programme as they changed like producers (I duno what they're called but the big companies which supports the show) and they werent able to print new programmes which is POOR as there's not even any photocopied sheets or anything.
Anyway, here are some pixs of me @ stagedoor:

IAmMyOwnMusical, it wasn't a few years ago. It was late 2005 through early 2006, less than a year ago! I don't know who told you it was a success but it certainly couldn't have been any of the cast. It was a horrible experience for most of them and, as I said, they could not wait to get back in the U.S. The group running that tour was not a group that any actor would want to be involved with again. Working conditions, housing conditions, not getting paid! Come on, now, let's not rewrite history here.
Was the conditions bad for the tour? gez I didn't know!
Rent is due to open in London in the spring
It was originally said it would open at the trafalgar studios but that issnt happening and now they are seeking a westend home(the shaftsbury theatre ,rents original home is coming empty due to Daddy Cool Closing)
