Well, i'm sure all the changes that they made are good ones, because the show is good, both the Tour and the Broadway
re: shoes- they're glued together, (maybe sets of four pairs each or so?) but not glued to the piece that they're on, so it's like chunks of shoes being taken off a shelf. If that makes any sense visually? :)
And then the shoe shelf is just a plain old tiktok again.
Yes there's still the end trap door, but no "No Good Deed" trapdoor- at least that's the Pantages setup for the tour.

Yikes, I can't imagine no trap door in No Good Deed. When I saw Idina come up screaming "Fiyero" my heart stopped and I froze in my seat as little shivers went from my head to toe. I can't see that happening if Elphaba walked onstage.
Ah well. Sacrifices must be made.
The broom affect must be cool though.
Yep, instead Elphaba sort of... others who have seen it might have a better way to describe it than I do... runs/circles on stage in the opening of "No Good Deed." Still screaming 'Fiyerooooooo,' and holding that note *forever,* so it's almost the same start to it, but nope, no trap door.
ha... i just saw the tour on saturday with Maria, and the running in circle thing was a little awkward. It didnt really make sense, because there was no reason for her running in circles! The entrance would have been stronger if she came on from the wings.
yeah, try explaining it in words- at first I had "Elphaba twirls around on stage," there had to be a better way to describe what it is that she does right then. :)
The broom bit is far superior in the tour than on Broadway. I had difficulty figuring out what was going on in the Broadway production when you just see the broom handle jiggling around most of the time. When it flies in from the wings it looks more magical and dramatic. Also, Elphaba's flight during Defying Gravity looked much better on tour than when I saw it on Broadway.
They DO have a trap door in the LA production (at the Pantages). They don't have the elevator/lift to raise and lower a performer, however. That's what malfunctioned and nearly killed Idina in one of her final performances on Broadway, when she stepped into a 4-foot hole. I can't imagine them touring a hydraulic contraption like that anyway, since no two theatres are going to have the same dimentions under their stage floor. The trap door itself is used more sparingly in the LA show, but rest assured, Elphaba pops up through it when Fiyero knocks on the floor... Just like in the Broadway production.
Whoever posted about seeing Derrick open the trap door to let Stephanie out, you are correct. Fiyero, now a scarecrow, opens the door to let her out.
"nearly killed Idina"??? You were one of the ones crying and lighting candles outside the theatre, right? She fell and she was bruised up a little. She was not "nearly killed".
amen
The stage manager told me in march as well, that any changes made to the tour (as in the ones we've been discussing) will also be made for the Bway production. When asked "why" she says the changes are usually for the better and most of the time easier for the crew and cast.
and if you don't believe that I talked to the stage manager find the thread that I said all the stuff that came true a week or two before it was announced (like Kris telling me there would be a sit-down pro and he was Fiyero). I tell the truth kids :)
Some Kendra's costumes are different too. Have they changed them on broadway or are they just that way for the tour and Chicago productions?

on the tour in what is this feeling i think they sing in the center of the stage at the beginning of it (that's wut it looked like on a new thing or the commercial for it). also, in the tour when elphie and glinda are at the emerald city the first time when mad. morrible brings in the grimmeree it's different. on the tour mad. morrible enters stage right. on broadway she enters stage left (i think). that's wut ive noticed
they still stand on either side of the stage for beginning of What is this Feeling? They staged them back to back specifically for the trailer but that's not how they do it on the tour. trust me.

In reply to the question about the costumes, yes, when Megan took over for JLT they made the switch over to the new Glinda costumes from the tour and Chicago productions. They kept the old costumes up until when JLT left, even for the understudies, because I saw Stacie go on right before JLT left and she still had the old costumes. So, now I guess they must be permenant (no matter how much I don't like them).
Hope this helps.

have they changed the inside of the Oriental Theater for Chicago to resemble the B'way version? If that makes sense...in Chicago do the monkeys fly over the audience?
