hi,
does anyone here know what the vietnamese lyrics to miss saigon's "dju vai vay" mean? and whether they actually have anything to do with traditional vietnamese wedding ceremonies or not?
an exhaustive internet search has left me empty handed, just hoping someone around here speaks vietnamese....
thanks
dave

It's what all the girls sing at weddings. They didn't know what else to sing.

In Edward Behr's book, apparently Schönberg and Boublil went to various Vietnamese restaurants and talked to waitresses. They got several variations, and went with the one that they thought sounded the best.

On the demo, there are different Vietnamese lyrics.

Thanks for the laugh Calvin. I was thinking the same thing. However, I am sorry I can't help with the exact meaning.

I asked my Vietnamese friend to translate it once. I can't remember it exactly, but they're just sweet, pretty lyrics having to do with love and whatnot... not really memorable, honestly.

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!
