I honestly know teenage year olds girl who can hit the Defying Gravity notes. There are also 17 or 18 year old girls who can sing some operatic notes. I don't know how high NOMTW goes but it is pretty high. I think the worst things is because they could not do the technical aspect of the show which would honestly make it a bad show just because of the show itself.

Wicked is covered in copyrighted material from MGM. The rights for it are going to cost a fortune unless they cut out all the Wizard of Oz referances.

The actual Wizard of Oz novel is in public domain and all of the MGM Wizard of Oz references were cut from Wicked because they couldn't get the rights.

No teenybopper drama club could ever compare to a professional production...

It's funny cuz even the proffesional productions feature teenybopper club talent.

You have to be one DAMN talented high school to pull off a decent rendition of Wicked. If you de-glitz this production, which many HS's would have to do, what are you left with? PERHAPS a very toned down rendition of Wicked could work, especially vocally toned down.

Actually, I changed my mind. I'd go see it at a local HS...for a good laugh. Just like I would see High School Musical at an actual school...to add a little humor to my night

yah, very few high schools or communtiy theatres have flying equipment. so what would they do with Defying Gravity? it would be kind of pathetic. or Glinda's bubble? UGH.

Actually, there are no Wizard of Oz movie references. That's why they call the dog Dodo and the shoes aren't red. Everything that is referenced is from the books.

It's kinda pathetic the way they do it in the "professional" production too. Some high schools do have flying equipment and tons of community theatres definitely do that's a pretty uninformed statement...

The shoes don't turn red, they have red lights shine on them. There's a difference, dear. And "There's no place like home" is obviously not a copyrighted phrase, as it's used constantly for Wizard of Oz references in TV and movies.

Why Dodo? Wouldn't Toto be considered a book-originated reference?

I haven't seen this show yet, so my knowledge is limited, but seeing as it does have so many special effects, I would love to see a REALLY talented community/high school theatre director with a decent amount of money do it and see different ways of it being done.
