Posted: 8/3/04 at 5:28pmThe nightgown is magically pulled off Lucy's body. Last night it was not a full frontal. It was very tastefully done with her back to the audience.

Now, is this nudity necessary for the characters/plot/themes, or is it gratuitous?
(This show is seeming more and more campy the more I hear about it.)

Posted: 8/3/04 at 6:30pmNudity or not, I saw the preview of DRACULA on Saturday night... It was awful. I advise that no one see this show.

Posted: 8/3/04 at 6:51pmHr dress is *blown off*? That's an intriguing special effect. Was it done well? And, no underwear? Didn't people wear *tons* of underwear in the Victorian era?

Posted: 8/3/04 at 6:52pmI don't care if there's nudity or not, but I don't think the nudity should be cut out for the matinees and left in for the evening shows. Either leave it in for all performances or take it out for all.

i don't recall if there was any nudity in the La Jolla staging but it seems unnecessary and an overall bad idea. don't get me wrong, I love gratuitous nudity as much as the next guy, but I prefer to keep it to movies which often need a little nudity to distract from bad material and bad acting. and that's fine, it's expected in movies today.
it's upsetting that talented gals like Kelli and Melissa should have to "show it all" in this particular show. It's a pop musical version of Dracula for God's sake! I think nudity onstage in musicals should only be used when absolutely necessary for the story or in order to appeal to some kind of target audience (like Naked Boys Singing). this just feels like an attempt to leave the Dracula audiences with SOMETHING to remember after the show, since it definitely won't be the music. tsk tsk Des!
