I emailed the person who runs the frank wildhorn website asking about a cast recording. He said frank is currently working on the recording and the original broadway cast will not be used. He also said the cast on the cd has not been announced but he will post it on www.frankwildhorn.com Updated On: 2/4/05 at 11:21 AM
If Melissa's not going to be on the recording, I won't be buying it!

yeah the only two rumored to be on the cast recording on James Barbour and Linda Eder
WE WANT MELISSA! WE WANT MELISSA! AND KELLI O'HARA, TOO!
Actually, we don't want either of them. That way, we can forget they were ever in this show.

I think Tom should just do it for free....lol....he deserves to be on the recording...
Gotta love show BUSINESS....
I would love the obc but with a show flopping and it costing a ridiculous 500,000, it sucks!

There was a thing on playbill.com a while ago. It said that non of the OBC would be on it. Linda Edder will prob. not be on it because of their seperation. Unless something happened between them and their ok with each other now.
Chuck Wagner talks about it in an interview right here on BWW. It's right on the home page.

Sux there won't be live musicians...
I'd really only want Tom on it anyway ---- as I much as I love Kelli and Melissa...
Barbour's got a great voice.
I would love the OBC but understand, from a financial viewpoint, why he did what he did. He handled advsing the cast abysmally & needs to work on his bedside manner.
I eagerly await the recording as the alternative was no recording @ all. If Frank were smart, he would do concept albums of all his works in progress & produce them overseas & for touring the US. He has to know by now he will never ever get a fair shake from the New York critics. He will never please them.

James Barbour DOES have a great voice. He makes my knees weak whether he's singing about Guns or pretending to be a Gypsy or Proposing... siiiiiiiiigh mmm...
But oh, yeah, uh Dracula. Well, James basically insinuated that he was doing it in his email to the subscribers to his website (yes, I am on that list) but that it would come out in January. Well, January is now officially gone. And Wildhorn said at the Drac closing that they were almost done in the studio. But I haven't heard anything about a release date or anything.
My ideal cast would be of course the OBC, with a few changes. I personally, am just a bigger fan of Elizabeth Loyacano as Mina and Melissa, especially since she had those vocal problems, just can't belt the notes like they're meant to be. And I'd change the Van Helsing, because he just didn't do anything for me. But I'm really kinda freaked to hear Before the Summer Ends by someone other than Darren. I just love the way he sings it. And he never failed to have tears pouring down his cheeks every time I saw it...
Anyhoo... Back to The Grudge.

I'm not a fan of the show or the music at all, but it's a CD I will definitely buy, atleast to give it a second listen (if nothing else,) and I can't believe that the cast won't be involved, that's really infuriating. Who does he think he is? The cast was the only good part about that show. They had to suffer through being in the show in the first place, so he should atleast repay them by allowing them to record it. It just doesn't make sense.

Well, I think saying that the actors had to "suffer through" Dracula is kind of extreme. They were getting paid and on Broadway, and for most of them (I mean, not Tom or Melissa, but all of the boys I think) it was their first role on Broadway that they originated. That's a great opportunity no matter what the show was. And I talked to them backstage--it may have been an act, but they all seemed to really enjoy working on the show. And I KNOW they were having fun during the shows--I saw them goofing in the wings, I HEARD Tom goofing in the pit, and you could see it in their eyes at curtain that they were really proud. They had to suffer through the mess with the recording, I'll agree with that. They had to suffer through bad reviews, but most of the bad reviews were about the music and lyrics and book, not about the acting. They had no control over that.
I have no idea what I started out to say, so I'm just gonna end there :)
