embarrasing question#1

Hi folks - please excuse my ignorance.
What number from 'West Side Story' are the famous arm and leg lifts (as featured on the logo/poster) from?

I know, I know....
I'm sure the answer is obvious to all of you, and while I like West Side, I have only ever seen it once on stage a few years ago.
So yes, I feel stupid not knowing ... and we've established that. Would anyone mind answering my question?

thanks necromancer ...
I thought that's where it was from. I've been watching several versions of the overture and just haven't seen it....which is why I asked the question.
Maybe something is wrong with me!

Well just to be more specific-
Its not quite the overture its the "Prologue" which opens the show and takes place after the overture, though some productions may cut the overture I guess.
The famous choreography is in the first combination that Bernardo does with some Sharks shortly after his entrance.
I recently played Bernardo so its fresh in my mind.
Don't be embarrassed! Its a perfectly fine question. Hope I helped!

Its part of the "Prologue". WEST SIDE STORY never had an Overture until the 1961 film-version.

Now that the not-so-embarrassing question has been answered, I would like to state that George Chakiris in those ever-so-very-tight jeans made my pre-pubescent heart Flutter with a capital F.
One of the turning points in my personal history.
There. I said it and I'm glad.

It's not an embarrassing question. It's one of the most iconic pieces of choreography in the American musical theater.
With that leg lift, Bernardo and the other two Sharks express their joy, staking out their new turf in America.
It's one of moments in West Side Story where Bernstein's music and Robbins's choreography and staging unite to make timeless theater magic.

There's been little news about the show since it left DC. Looking forward to some news about what's happening at this stage. Thanks.
