Can an equity member perform with a dance company that is non union or union?
Also what about child broadway performers, can they perform in dance studio performances after they've become equity members? I know trent kowalik performed as a student in ABTs nutcracker so I assume its ok but I wasn't sure if some sort of special exception had to be made.

Yes. Dance performance is not under Equity's jurisdiction. The Broadway productions of COME FLY AWAY and SWING were not Equity contracts. AGVA if i'm not mistaken.

And in terms of children, productions included in training that are non-union are fine. For example, if a student who is a member of AEA is getting a BFA or studying acting, MT, etc, s/he can participate in the school's productions. I think AEA kids can do Stagedoor Manor, as it's considered training, but they can't do a community theatre production.

Come Fly Away and Movin' Out were both on AGMA contracts. Equity members can apply for an "educational waiver" if they're in a school or university production. Any child actor under the age of fourteen can go on "juvenile withdrawal" and do non-equity work until they turn fourteen.
