by my count there are six new musicals lined up for the fall season; THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN', THE WIZ, JERRY SPRINGER — THE OPERA, ZANNA, PRINCESSES, and A TALE OF TWO CITIES. what shows do you guys think are going to close and then which theaters will be taken over by what? pure speculation. i'm interested to know what you guys think.

The Wiz is a NEW musical? How?

I don't we'll ever see Jerry Springer here after the West End production lost many many millions before closing.

Isn't Princesses dead? And is Zanna back on?

And you forgot the biggest new musical of all coming in next season -- Mary Poppins

Well JERRY SPRINGER is not happening so you can scratch that one off your list.

It is way too early to predict. If some of the new musicals bomb then theatres will be available, but the spring openers usually stick around until after Tony time.

Also, wasn't TALE OF 3 CITIES cancelled?

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Well, if we put The Wiz in there, what about A Chorus Line? Because I think that will be the end all for the season. Except for Mary Poppins...

The Wiz (if it even makes it out of La Jolla -- it's not officially announced for Broadway) and A Chorus Line are revivals. Period.

It's a real shame Jerry Springer isn't happening. It was a fantastic piece of hilarious theatre, IMHO. Although when it lost money in London, they were considering taking it to NY in a smaller format with a much smaller cast. So perhaps it's best off that it's not coming here; I feel like a downsizing of that show just wouldn't work.

Jerry Springer is off for sure, and awful, awful show.

Company could be coming in.

My bet is Time they are a-changin will come in, i think something new will enter The Hilton, and of course the A Chrous Line/Mary Poppins as already announced.

Well, perhaps playbill.com hasn't updated their list of upcoming Broadway shows for quite some time, but that really wasn't the post. I was interested to know what theater people thought the new musicals would be in. I didn't include Mary Poppins or A Chorus Line for the obvious reason that they already have theaters announced. And I never said that The Wiz, if it does come to Broadway, would be considered a new musical, only that it would be a new production and it would still need a theater to play at.

Wow, Margo got up on the bitchy side of the bed this morning. More condescending and obnoxious than usual.

MARGO is very well informed and her opinions have so far
been "on the money". She was correct to predict the success of "Color Purple" and her analysis of the WIZ revival is dead-on.

As for those of you who are hopelessly waiting for Jerry Springer....I saw the show in London and thought it was EXTREMELY overrated. It's a pleasant show with one forgettable song after another.

"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"

Nobody has mentioned "The Pirate Queen"! It previews in Chicago this fall, then goes to Broadway Winter 2007. Don't you think this should also be in the line-up?

CURTAINS (Kander/Ebb) might come to New York in the fall. It starts in LA this summer.

That's the trouble with this song. It goes on and on and on.
