"Was the decision to not make an OBCR of FALSETTOS only based on the fact that there were off-Broadway recordings of the two halves?"
I think it was felt that there were already recordings made and there weren't any significant changes to the Broadway show to warrant a new recording.
I saw Falsettoland Off-Broadway and then saw Falsettos on Broadway. I wasn't pleased with Barbara Walsh's Trina. Even though Faith Prince is known more as a comic actress, her "Holding To The Ground" was powerful onstage. Her dramatic depth hasn't been tapped since and it's too bad.

re: falsettoland#28
Posted: 2/24/05 at 2:56pmI would disagree with there not being significant changes. Four Jews in a Room Bitching was expanded with much new material, there were many lyric changes and the addition of I'm Breaking Down. Add the new members in the Broadway cast and I think it definitely warranted a new recording, but a new double-CD would have been expensive to produce. I still think there should be a recording of the score that represented the Broadway production. It remains one of the few flawless productions I've ever seen. And where is Heather MacRae, by the way? Did anyone see her in the one-night flop Here's Where I Belong based on East of Eden?

Two years ago she was on One Life to Live as a cellmate. That year, they did a musical episode, and she sang "Easy to Be Hard".
I remember seeing her on Clarissa Explains it All many years ago.

it is sold as part of a two cd package of the musical FALSETTOS. The first half being March of the Falsettos, the second cd being Falsettoland.
p.s. to wildcat, I'm Breaking Down is not on the FALSETTOS recordings. However, if my memory is not playing tricks on me, I'm Breaking Down can be heard on the recording of IN TROUSERS.
FALSETTOS(particularly, Falsettoland, the second half) is a magnificent score with which to fall in love. Mr. Finn's Tony win for Best Music and Lyrics for FALSETTOS was richly deserved.

Posted: 2/24/05 at 3:42pmI'm so glad some people on this board like "IN TROUSERS"! It's one of my favorite shows. I absolutely love the song "Set Those Sails," it's amazing!
re: falsettoland#32
Posted: 2/24/05 at 3:53pmgot-a-light? are you familiar with Finn's A NEW BRAIN. I saw it and loved it and treasure the cd!
re: falsettoland#33
Posted: 2/24/05 at 3:58pmYes "I'm Breaking Down" is a bonus track on In Trousers. It was originally part of that show and then they moved it into Falsettos for Broadway.

I recently bought the triolgy and am very familiar with them due to extensive listening everyday for the last two weeks!
I adore them, but am finding it hard to understand the story in In Trousers!?
Elegies i have had for a year or so and i am a very big fan, Joe Papp...a fantastic song... but to sing it as a solo would ruin the great ending which needs two other fellas! shame though! Loads of top tunes on it! Very touching!
William Finn is slowly becoming my favourite composer i think!

I saw Heather MacRae in a touring cast of a revue called "Something Wonderful: The Music of Richard Rodgers" around two years ago... After the show, she was so excited that I knew who she was. She was incredibly nice.
P.S. I already said that I'm Breaking Down can be found on the In Trousers CD...
P.P.S. William Finn deserves all of the recognition in the world. He is my favorite composer of all time, hands down.

Yes!
Oh, Lonny Price.

I saw the LA reading of Finn's A NEW BRAIN that Reprise did a few weeks ago... I thought it was really great!

"I adore them, but am finding it hard to understand the story in In Trousers!?"
There's not really a linear story. It's more a psychological probing of Marvin.

got-a-light, I was one of the few lucky people that got to see A NEW BRAIN with the original cast at Lincoln Center.
I was in New York on business. In addition to it being a Sunday night it was also Tony night(the year THE LION KING won--I later watched the Tonys on video.)
There were practically NO shows running, it being Sunday and Tony Award night. So we had to "settle" for A NEW BRAIN. Wowwwwwwww! It was awesome. It was ok missing the live Tony broadcast to see A NEW BRAIN.

SCOTTY
Yes! I saw it at Chapel. Can't bitch TOO much cause a good friend of mine played Cordelia and I know the Director and MD a little...but...um...yeaaah.
I've also seen it at STC (Gina Riley as Trina. YES!) and by Saltpillar, which was hands down the best production of it I've seen.

Ah....Oaky Doaky.
I do believe the brilliant 'Tony Sheldon' was in the STC version. I would have given a body limb to see that production. Of course I wasnt intrested in theatre back then...
*hangs head in shame*

He was, but I didn't care for him too much in it actually. Didn't have the heart I expected. Michael Cormack was an amazing Whizzer though.
I got tickets to the last performance the night before and wept like a dork LOL It ruled.

Intresting you say that about Tony. My experience's with him, have been fantastic. Did you catch the man in 'The Producers'? Bloody pissa!
Im sending you (years late) jeleousy vibes about the final night tickets!

Oh and you should....cause it was SO worth hating me for! But Saltpillar's was still better.
Agreed, he was good in Producers...even though I pretty much hated that show.
Do you have the OOBC of Falsettos? If not, you want it?

Saltpiller? Are they Melbourne based company? Cameron Wenn wasnt in that was he?
I fortunately do own the complete 'Marvin' trilogy. They have been beautiful companion's over the years. (Geez how sad does that sound)
Thankyou for the offer though.

Oh see now I'm jealous. Cause I don't have In Trousers. But I'm with you, I love the hell out of them...
Saltpillar is a jewish theatre company in Melbourne (Elsternwick, I think? It was forever ago...) and yes, Cameron Wenn played Whizzer and he was outstanding. Better than Michael Cormack in my opinion.

I can see him in that role.
When 'Piano Bar'(chapel) was still up and about. That production was very much talked about.
Do you want a copy of 'Trouser's'? ha! now I have the power!
re: falsettoland#49
Posted: 2/25/05 at 7:11amYES! I would love a copy. You'd be my hero.
