GLORY DAYS
I'm still waiting for an OBCR
Do we know if they are making one?
Many of these titles *may* be made available thru Arkiv - that company has recently made the rare London cast HELLO DOLLY (Mary Martin) available and have reissued many out-of-print titles, even if on CD-R.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I'm STILL waiting for the LESTAT cast album to be released though I know it will never happen.
It just irks me that the master recording is just sitting on a shelf somewhere, gathering dust.

Hopefully more of these flop shows that actually produced a recording that was never released will go the route of The Capeman and at least release the recording digitally via iTunes.
And I must say, having bought The Capeman from iTunes I'm curious to know what went wrong with the show, as I really liked the score. Was it a bad staging? Was it just the wrong time on Broadway for a dark musical about a murderer? Was it, as one critique I saw said, just still too fresh in the minds of too many New Yorkers for it to be a viable property at the time?
I do tend to find myself drawn sometimes to the flop shows. I'm a big fan of Carrie and would love to see it given new life, maybe going back to the original workshop, which according to Ken Mandelbaum in "Not Since Carrie" actually did show some potential.

Byron,
Here's a few threads where the problems with The Capeman are talked about (to varying degrees):

I'd love recordings of Into the Light, Rachael Lily Rosenbloom, Ari, and Rainbow Jones, among others. It's nice to dream...

Thanks for those links, commasplice. It's actually nice to see some threads out there with well thought out critiques and dialogues on them, rather than just full of "it sucked" and absolutely no reasons for why they thought it sucked.
This has gotten off topic. The original message listed a number of shows that were recorded and released on Lp but have never been made available on CD.
THE APPLE TREE (Roundabout revival), THREEPENNY OPERA (Roundabout revival), CARRIE, PLATINUM, were never recorded.
LESTAT was recorded but when the show closed the master tapes were never mixed or edited and it would cost too much now to do so.
I just point this out in case someone reading this thread gets the wrong idea that any of the above were ever commercially available.

There are three off Broadway hits that I'd like to have:
Man With A Load of Mischief (original)
Riverwind
Oh, Coward!
All were recorded and released on vinyl, although I have heard that the master tapes for Oh, Coward (a gem) are lost.

Lennon--good score (John Lennon stuff--of course, it's good), great cast, and there were some amazing performances in that show that deserved to be heard agin....
What's up Bryan? We missed you. Where've you been?
A day without Bryan is like a day without sunshine.
I'll drink to that!!!
Lestat. For the great performances by Carolee Carmello and Allison Fischer. And Drew Sarich's killer voice. Come on Elton you can deal with the shame, the actors worked their butts off and sounded great.
He has nothing to be ashamed about.
^ Mr. Roxy's right. Nothing at all.
