What are the latest cast album you have on vinyl? Mine would be a trio from the 1987 season-Into the Woods, Anything Goes, and Phantom. Certainly after 1983 or so, the availability of titles start to dramatically decrease.
Trying to figure out what the latest titles I can get on vinyl might be. Trying to set parameters for my collection. Thanks!

I don't have it, but I know Matador was put on vinyl, and that was 1992-1993.
I have Phantom on vinyl, and am *kicking* myself for not buying Into the Woods when I had the chance.

Miss Saigon is probably my newest vinyl (1990)...it has a huge, full color book inside, identical to the double CD, but really a nice keepsake because of the gigantic photos inside, plus the lyrics are super easy to read that large.

Hah, found one that's newer from my collection...the Deutsche Grammophon/Michael Tilson Thomas version of ON THE TOWN from 1992.

The Lp releases petered out around 1990; The Tyne Daly GYPSY (on Elektra) and CITY OF ANGELS (Columbia) were about the last Broadway cast albums to come out in vinyl format. (DROWSY CHAPERONE of course had a special limited edition LP release but that was just a stunt.) The British labels hung on a little longer with Lp releases, athough some London casts were just issied in 1989/90 prior to their 90/91 Broadway opensings. (MISS SIAGON, ASPECTS OF LOVE) By teh 90/91 season the major labels had ceased Lp editions. ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, TEH WILL ROGERS FOLLIES, THE SCRET GARDEN, and ASSASSINS were all issued on CD and Cassette only.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Posted: 4/7/08 at 7:00amI think the last LP I ever purchased was the Broadway cast recording of Chess. I'm getting ready to get rid of most of my show LPs as it is, as they're taking up too much space. There are those that I'm holding onto though (Annie; the first cast recording I ever purchased).

Thanks everyone, and especially frontrowcenter. I know I can always count on you for the definitive answer regarding OBC's. I figured the LP's had petered out a few years before they did for the industry at large, since OBC's are especially senstive to tight margins. The Daly Gyspy and City of Angels will immediately rise to the top of my must have list and make a good bookend for my collection.
I must also point out that asking between $7.50 and $8.00 for three of the most common OCB's is absurd. You can walk into any thrift store that sells records and find an excellent copy of these record for fifty cents. These routinely sell (or don't sell since the market is so flooded with them) on Ebay for $0.99. And since this is a particular pet peeve of mine, I would also note that having shipped LP's myself, that even with current postage rates, it should cost no more than $4.00 for shipping and handling. That includes the cost of the fancy package specifically designed to ship LP's. The only excuse for a $7.00 handling fees is to pad one's profit, which I find detestable. Sell it for what you think it is worth or what you will accept for it, and let your shipping and handling reflect the actual costs for those items, or don't sell it all. Otherwise, don't be suprised when it doesn't sell.
