Chug, chug, chug went the motor,
Bump, bump, bump went the brake,
Thump, thump, thump went my heart strings,
When he smiled I could feel the car shake.
He tipped his hat, and took a seat.
He said he hoped he hadn't stepped upon my feet.
He asked my name, I held my breath.
I couldn't speak because he scared me half to death.
Chug, chug, chug went the motor,
Pop, pop, pop went the wheels,
Stop, stop, stop went my heart strings,
As he started to go then I started to know how it feels,
When the universe reels.
The day was bright, the air was sweet,
The smell of honeysuckle charmed you off your feet.
You tried to sing, but couln't squeak,
In fact you loved him so you couldn't even speak.
Buzz, buzz, buzz went the buzzer,
Plop, plop, plop went the wheels,
Stop, stop, stop went my heart strings,
As he started to leave,
I took hold of his sleeve with my hand,
And as if it were planned,
He stayed on with me and it was grand just to stand
With his hand holding mine to the end of the line.

I agree... GOOD VIBRATIONS is young and energetic. It deserves a solid run.
And if she'll say, "My darling, I'm yours!" I'll throw away my striped tie and my best pressed tweed, all I really need is the girl...

gee, lemme see... that's a great reason a show should have a long Broadway run. because it's "young" and "energetic".

Well that's what Farrah said about BOBBI BOLAND! Except for the young part, of course.
PEACE.

Shows can close in rehearsal - Harmony anyone?
Shows can close in preview - Bobbi Boland calling.
Shows can close on the road to Broadway because they are lousy or they run out of money or both.
Shows can open with their one week notice already posted so if they close real fast the producers will not be liable for any more dollars than need be - Home Sweet Homer with Yul Brynner did just that 30 years ago. The show ran one performance and the proverbial plug was pulled.
So don't think shows have to "open" before they "close".

shows close in previews all the time
"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!"

I think the worst thing you can possibly do is defend a show by talking negatively about other shows.
Or maybe I can't believe you called Movin' Out trash. Say wha?

But should anyone even begin to trust the opinion of someone who fell asleep during Pacific Overtures?
I'd say no.
I'd say no.

Carrie closed after 4 previews.
Buskers (aka Busker Alley) closed out of town, and although the St. James was poster ready for the show, it never opened.
The Little Prince closed before previews.
A show can be THAT bad, and for those that I know personally, who have seen GV, they say it is THAT bad, besides, even the actor's know it is THAT bad.

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive.
"Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot."
"No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one."
Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

It's great that GOOD VIBRATIONS has talented performers who are filled with energy. But if the show itself is crap, then it should close, regardless of the talent.
muscle23ftl: You said that MAMMA MIA! is shallow. I agree. But saying that GOOD VIBRATIONS should stay open because "it's fun" and "has beautiful young people in bathing suits" is not a sufficient justification. That sounds pretty shallow itself. What happened to having a SOLID storyline and interesting plot?
The reason that THE LION KING is still open, despite the fact that you think it's a "sleeper", is because it has a solid, definite plot and storyline. It's not a weak one that is formed around a few pre-existing, unconnected songs. Some people might not enjoy the show, but it is hard to argue that there is no plot.
GOOD VIBRATIONS can close at anytime, even if it hasn't opened. If it gets awful reviews and the producers don't think it will make it, they can close it during previews, right after previews or any other time they feel appropriate.
