Hey all!
i'm new to the board, and am auditioning for colleges in the upcoming months (NYU is my top choice!!). I'm all set in my classical-esque lyric soprano song (Green Finch from Sweeney Todd)...but i still need a fast-paced comedic song...preferably belting seeing as i'm trained as both a lyric soprano and belter. any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!
thanks so much!
maggie
try looking at songs from the last five years, there's a few good comedic up beat songs
Well, if you've got the training, I'd say 'Another Hundred People' from COMPANY
Although, it isn't "comedic" and two Sondheims might not be the best idea.
what about "Everybody Loves Louis" from SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE?

thank you all so much..i never thought i'd get relpies so fast! it definitely helps to get some feedback. it's super scary knowing that i have make such important decisions when i'm only 16 eek!!!!!
oh, and i think you're right about two sondhiems..i was thinking about "another hundred people" or "i'm not getting married today"...so they're kinda last resorts if i can't find any non-sondhiem.
would you kill me if I suggest "Popular"?
Yes, because I saw there were only 5 posts so far, and I clicked on here really quickly to say "If anyone says Popular, I'm going at them with a shovel." and then you beat me to it.
Do you realize how many people will be singing that and/or how much the admissions people won't want to hear it?

i might.
though i do enjoy a little wicked from time to time, i'm afraid that this year's NYU auditions will be filled with chenoweth wannabees, and i really don't want to be one of them.
so yes, i would kill you....but i'll give you another chance. :P
Now, I am not sure if it is overdone, it probably is, but if you've got the pipes there is always 'Shy' from ONCE UPON A MATRESS.
Speaking of NYU, two of my senior friends (I'm only a sophomore) got their early acceptance letters today!
Shy is a great song.. TOns of fun
Type_A_Tiff you're going to kill me!!!
This is a dangerously threatening website! AHHH
i was gonna add, "happyly ever after" from mattress as well =)
As opposed to a safely threatening website? AHHH!!
::hides:: I'm really frightened now!
How about "Everybody says Don't".

I am a huge Sondheim fan...but the only piece of advice I would give you is this...don't do a Sondheim or JRB piece for a college audition. I don't care if you can pull it off or not...teacher after teacher after instructor has told me that it is a bad call for many reasons. The most important of which is the fact that the pianist.... be them amazing or tragic.... will have to play a difficult piece of music. Make your audition less stressful and try something with a simple score. There are many great pieces that have a steady tempo. Again I am the biggest fan of anything Sondheim and JRB! Nonetheless when it comes to auditioning, please trust me and steer clear!
Good luck!
Kate
What about "Speed Test" from TMM or "Maybe They're Magic" from Into the Woods? Those are the 2 that quickly come to mind for a fast paced comedic song.
Words Words Words from the The Witches Of Eastwick - slow start, builds up to a frenetic pace, with a nice bit of belting at the end! Plenty of room for character touches in the delivery as well.

I don't know if this is from a show, but "My Simple Christmas Wish" - fast and very funny.
"When You Got It, Flaunt It" from The Producers.
