Definitely "Gimme Gimme". That show defines showstopper.
"I Only Have Eyes For You" from 42nd Street always gives me chills- but only when Christine Ebersole is singing it-hehe.
Than of course there's "Rose's Turn" and "Some People".
All of Lucy's songs from Jekyll and Hyde are great- "Someone like You", "A New Life", etc.
I also love "This is the Moment" and "Confrontation" from J&H, as well as "Cabaret" and "The Impossible Dream".

I guess Defying Gravity is TECHNICALLY a duet, but Kristin only sings a couple of lines.
"Cant I make you understand, youre having delusions of gradeur.
I hope youre happy in the end, I hope youre happy my friend."
But that's it.

I think Kristin sings a bit more than that...she also has a whole section she sings along with Idina, I'd consider it more of a duet. But If you wanna consider it a solo (since Idina is the one that blows your mind with that song), I'll say that Defying Gravity is one of my faves.

Posted: 8/27/03 at 7:02pmNot from a Musical, but my favorite favorite solo performance in a show EVER has to go to Donna Lynne Champlin singing I'm Always Chasing Rainbows in Hollywood Arms.

Posted: 8/27/03 at 7:02pmI took another look at the lyrics and it is a duet, but it has solo potential.

Posted: 8/27/03 at 8:38pm"A Change In Me" is an incredibly phenomenal song. When I saw the show, and heard the song I loved it, but I couldn't get hold of a copy. Than, I heard Jamie Lynn Sigler sing it at Broadway on Broadway- which made me fall in love with the song. Now there's a Broadway.com video feature of Jamie rehearseing as Belle, and she sings a lot of it- so whenever I get a craving for that beautiful song, I play that-hehe.

...and I am telling you I'm not going...
#19re: how about a favorite solo from a musical
Posted: 8/28/03 at 5:04pmI don't know if this counts because it's more of a duet in the play, but on the Dreamgirls OBCR Loretta Divine's "Ain't No Party" is a great solo song.
