if you watch this video they briefly show a puppet that i'm almost 100% sure is zazu from the lion king (stage version), now i'm no expert but can't they not do that?

I believe it's the same "shop" building the puppets as the Lion King. Puppets wear out after time, so a Zazu replacement was probably being built, was filmed and made it into the Dr. Dolittle video.

Yeah...I am pretty sure Michael Curry is also designing this show, and he designed Lion King puupets. I doubt he'll sue himself.

I'm not sure who exactly designed them (as in, come up with the ideas), but I'm sure someone other than Julie Taymor actually drafted the designs and built the puppets.

Even if the guy designed them, wouldn't they be Disney's property? (Cause we all know Disney wants to own everything)

You're right. If Disney paid them for their services then Disney (no doubt) OWNS any property created by them. It's true of the work of the old Disney animators and just as true (I imagine) of todays designers.

It COULD be the other way around. I know that set and lighting designers own their designs. Perhaps the actual designer of the puppets own the deisngs, and allows Disney to use his designs. The actual builder is just the middle man.

Yes, that is Zazu. He's also shown in another place in the video where they're putting the orange tips on his wings. Also near the beginning check out the drawing of the gazelle on the wall, definitely a gazelle from Lion King. And near the end they show a person working on a puppet's hand. That looks a lot like Timon to me.
