This is that New Yorker review I was talking about. As far as I know, The New Yorker doesn't usually support "dumb" things. If anything, they kind of go the other way, no?

And what is the name of the magazine? NEW YORK-er. Of course New Yorkers like it. What about the REST of the country?

No, totally. I was just making sure. I have no idea if the rest of the country would like it. Are there statistics about that kind of stuff? Like if a show appeals to tourists..? Cause it definitely did to the people from out of town standing around me the other night. I don't know.

That article was just interesting because it said that Xanadu "was a refreshing relief from the synthetic shows peddled by many Broadway producers" or something like that. I'd have to read it again. But you know what I mean, right?

By the way... here's the link to the NY Times review

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/11/theater/reviews/11xana.html

Because you know, ONLY "New Yorkers" read that paper...
Not like it's one of the most distributed periodicals ALL OVER THE WORLD or anything like that...

I think Humbert's point was...The New Yorker basically loves to sh!t on everything that's not high art. So yes, the positive review was surprising.

It had nothing to do with your own little thread about the rest of the country potentially hurling tomatoes at a Tony-nominated Xanadu (as if mainstream America watches the Tonys anyway).

"If there is going to be a restoration fee, there should also be a Renaissance fee, a Middle Ages fee and a Dark Ages fee. Someone must have men in the back room making up names, euphemisms for profit." (Emanuel Azenberg)

I believe THE NEW YORK TIMES is the most read paper in the world. That's why it is so powerful.

If by "Rest of the Country" you mean to include the folks who work for presenters of National Tours and bring Broadway to cities across America... they're just as into Xanadu and excited to get it on tour as the critics have been for the NY production.

I've toured the country several times, and retain contact with my presenter friends from all over, and they're ALL excited for XANADU to hit the road and come to town. And ya know what? So are they're SUBSCRIBERS who are requesting it!

So please, Joe, enlighten me as to who you speak of when you say Rest of the Country.

I need to make a confession.

I live in the southeast. I am "the rest of the country". I'm coming out of the Okra shaped closet.

And Xanadu rocks my socks!

With Clay Aiken in Spamalot, all of Broadway is singing a collective "There! Right! There!" -Me-
