We have often written about shows that High Schools could not/should not do (because of the vocal and acting demands). Well, I just heard a few samples of (Audio Only) "The Light in the Piazza" from a High School in Southern California that are REALLY fantastic. The "Octet and "Aiutami" are so well done that I need to eat my words.

It's really great to see this kind of quality work in young people. WOW!

Just visit that "site" we cannot mention and use the Tags Piazza and Aiutami to get you started (there are a few other numbers. There is also a cool VIDEO of the student singing Margaret. She sings Fable for some big vocal concert at the Los Angeles Music Center. She's 17! Yikes! The Octet might take you there (as it did for me), but you can also use the Tag: 2007 Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Awards Hernandez.

I sincerely and truly don't believe that any high school kid can pull of the score of The Light in the Piazza. It doesn't matter how long they have been trained. It's for adults whose voices have fully grown and matured.

OK. That school is known for their vocal dept. It's just a fact. They win almost everything! But, I agree that doing the entire show is a different matter. But kudos to them for their work here.

Do you go to Fullerton High?

That school is filthy. I was at the MACY awards ceremony, and their little snippet that they did for Little Women was just terribly boring.

Sorry, I do NOT go there. LOL I am too old for that. I do know teachers there. They have a great program there. Just a fact. "Little Women" is not exactly an energetic show. So, if you were bored, then I guess it's not your thing. I saw their show and It was great. Not perfect, but it was great.

Reputation doesn't mean much to me. Stephen Schwartz,anyone? The Light in the Piazza is SO hard. You would need a SUPERB high school boy who can go high and low and be beautiful about it. You would need a very vocally mature Clara to sing even a little snippet like "Clara's Interlude". And "Fable"! Not to mention "The Joy You Feel". PLUS let's add in that the Italian needs to be flawless. If you're not gonna do it 100 percent correctly, you shouldn't do Light in the Piazza at all.

High schoolers or not, they're amazing. I love the way the Clara sings, "We're on vacation!".

I hate not being able to sing.

LOL! Wow! This is all interesting! We just recorded the songs. I agree Piazza is a special show with VERY demanding music. Since I am the guy who posted the "site" audio clips (and am the voice teacher) I feel I can add a little something to all this.

It's no big deal! We recorded most of the score for our own documentaion We also had Master Classes with David Burnham and Elena Shaddow (both great people). Adam also was helpful and supportive. It was a way to work on great music with the wonderful voices that I had last year. It's really that simple.

Although 95% of the You Tube clips that get linked here are still copyright infrigements.

I don't understand how new people call it "the site that can't be named" when BWW has been lax on the YouTube stuff since March.

They posted "The Joy You Feel" and the young singer is really great! So, is Margaret's "Beauty Is Reprise". Again, I agree that the score is very difficiult and it needs strong mature voices, but it seems they had a good handle on that.

"Statues and Stories" is very good, but I think the other clips are better. "Octet" and "Aiutami" are great!

The non-professional rights will be held up one more year. Now that the tour is over it goes to regional and stock first. As I stated before; the audio was made for documentation, for Adam Guettel, and in preporation for our Master Class with Elena Shaddow and David Burnham. That's why there is no video.

I did try for the rights, and they will not be available till 2008/2009. That's as of last week. So, we are NOT doing this show. It's not the kind of show you can do "just any old year." These voices will be gone and it's the end.

Then I guess people can rest easy now that they know the school won't be doing it. Gosh!

And you can still check out Olivia Hernandez singing "Fable" on the Tube! "Hernandez" "Spotlight" "Awards" should get you there. It a competition for High School talent. So, if people don't believe she's in high school after that?????
