I'm pretty sure it was from a Broadway Bares benefit concert. If I'm right (which I'm probably not) Idina sang "Ride With Me To the Sky" to open up the show and then all of those ladies sang together later on. Anyone else?

Yes, She Rocks Broadway sounds right...The recording I heard was poor quality, and I was wondering which part Orfeh sings since I don't know her voice that well. I'm pretty sure Alice sings the first part, and Orfeh is the first one who goes into the chorus? Any help where I can listen to a DECENT quality of this song would help too =)

I was there and it was indeed called "She Rocks". It was at the theater I saw Hedwig,way back in 99'. The ladies each did a set of original tunes and then got together for Lean On Me as an all-star finale. You can't miss Orfeh's part, as the crowd goes ballistic. Some of the sets were better than others. Let's just say, Orfeh and Rubin-Vega's seemed the least self indulgent. Menzel and Ripley just went on and on and I distinctly remember(because it seemed so very strange to me), Ripley literally moving herself to tears. There were a few other women on the bill but it was so long ago, Ican't recall all their names.

That would be the Jane Street Theatre - a great little venue where Tick Tick Boom played. I'm sure the roof came off during that concert

So, Al, Orfeh IS the one who sings the first chorus? Haven't heard the clip in a while so I don't remember any ballistic yelling. I just was struck because I always see pics of Orfeh and she;s this adorable little blonde white woman, and she opened her mouth and it sounded like a large african-american woman singing, it seemed so out of place lol but her voice was VERY good if that's who i'm thinking of.

You just described Orfeh to a "T". She's a big African American gospel singer trapped in the body of a gorgeous, teeny blonde white woman. And yes, she's the one who comes in with the first "lean On Me" and the crowd does indeed "go ballistic". I think it was at the WestBeth though.

Good, i'm glad i'm not crazy then, because I really thought they mislabled Orfeh's picture after I heard her sing...there was no way the voice I heard could come from this apple-cheeked little blonde! It's actually pretty freaky. Anyway, where HAS Orfeh been lately??

And the crowd has been going ballistic! Cheer breaks after her solo in "Make Like a Nail" and again later in the song for her this weekend! Not to mention about four others in various parts of the show...

I know, she's amazing and the crowd does go nuts. All I know is they'd better make a cast recording of this show, like, NOW!
