Thanks Becky. But only "for once"?
I thought I was making many other intelligent observations, too.
What about CONTACT? A travesty and insult to anyone involved in the musical theatre. May that yellow dress go the way of Monica's blue one--never to be seen again.
Yours for live music on Broadway!

Posted: 1/4/04 at 3:08pmDon't forget about booth singers too.. those hidden singers that sit and sing along with leads or ensemble to bolster the sound of the music and lyrics. I think Sat Night Fever had like 6 booth singers-- not that it really helped that gawd aweful show

Posted: 1/4/04 at 3:25pmYes, Lilhead, I agree about 'Fever'. The only thing good about that show was Kristoffer Cussick as Gus.

Posted: 1/4/04 at 3:30pmA Chorus Line was famous for booth singers, like Karen Ziemba.

Posted: 1/4/04 at 3:33pmI thought that booth singers also sang after a very big dance break and they would lyp sinch so they could catch their breath?

Broadway Bulldog, are there ANY major musicals that are not body miked these days?
Back in my day great projection could get you a job, nowadays casting directors chastise:
"Don't EVER sing loud at an audition!!! Don't you know you'll be singing for a mike? AUDITION for a mike as well."
Being as how I was a 1 Trick Pony, the advent of the body mike was the end of my career.

"Dance of the Vampires" had very little pre-recording!
Michael was not prerecorded at all except for the bat.
This is a sore point with me because a stupid critic reported a nasty internet rumor as fact.
Besides, doesn't actors equity (or someone)limit how much of any given show is pre-recorded?
I was a member of a pit chorus in a regional production of "No No Nanette" about a hundred years ago because the dancers were not quite the triple threat they needed to be, but then, they never lost a giant beach ball into the orchestra either. :)
Cheers,
Audrey :)

Posted: 1/4/04 at 10:34pmNO Equity doesn't limit recordings as long as its the person in the show. And I have it on VERY GOOD authority the Mr. Crawford had a click track. And from seeing the show I found it VERY obvious.

MusicalComedyMan - I also saw DOTV on Broadway! Micheal Crawford never used a track when he was performing. Many people thought that his final note at the end of the first act was pre-recorded, but the stage manager told me that it was not. She said that most shows will make recordings of their performers, just as back-ups, but they were not used in DOTV! The only character that was pre-recorded was The Bat (My favorite character, hahaha)!!!
See Ya!

Posted: 1/4/04 at 10:49pmCan everyone just let DOTV rest in peace? You will upset Max before his performance tomorrow.

What night did you go? Could he have been sick or something? I don't know, that's just what one of the stage managers told me after show! I also talked to them about the Eternity graveyard set, it was so interesting hearing how everything worked.....It was just a technically interesting show, don't you think?!?!?

I think the sponge was wiser than the bat, it certainly got more stage time, hahaha!

Posted: 1/4/04 at 11:03pmWell... I saw the show twice (drunk both times) and I ADORED IT. I was pissed at myself for not seeing it again. AS for the sponge. I have no idea what it meant. But seeing the chorus with flashlights under their faces chanting "Turn Around" was worth the price of admission!!!! OH and the Garlic Song.
