has anyone seen this? im in the process of watching it right now... what did you think? i was very pleased with how true to the script it is.. and the singing isnt too bad either... (is rick mornais really singing??) just wondering if anyone else had anything to say about it...
"has anyone seen this?"
Seriously? I think you'll be hard pressed to find many people here who haven't seen it.

yes i have seen it. I like it a lot. The voices aren't the best though. I can't stand Ellen Greene's voice at all, but that's just me. All in all, yeah it's a very good movie.
Ellen Greene is the only Audrey. EVER.
I have the limited edition of the dvd... with the alternate ending!
I love this movie, Frank Oz is one of my favourites directors!

I HATE the film ending.. Rick Morranis annoys me. I watched this earlier today.
I read an article years ago that said at one time a young Nathan Lane was being considerded for Seymore.
That would have been interesting!
so wait is that really rick moranis singing???? i didnt think he could sing.... i really dont like whoever plays audrey. her voice annoys me for some reason...

ellen greene played Audrey in the film. She was the original Audrey onstage and many consider her portrayal to be ideal.

Is it Rick Moranis singing, I don't think hes that bad. He's good enough. I can't stand Ellen Greene, however lol. I also hate the ending of the movie, the stage version is sooo much better
shes okay most of the time... other times i just dont like it. its probably just me... i can totaly see what other people may see in her though

It was one of the first DVDs I bought for myself. The cameos are fabulous. Christopher Guest, Bill Muray, Jim Belushi - stunning! And who doesn't just love Steve Martin as Dr. Orin Scrivello DDS?!? I also love that black gal from Martin!
Love the movie! I enjoy how the ending, while changed, is still just a little bit creepy...Love Ellen Greene, Rick Moranis, Levi Stubbs, Chris Guest and of course Steve Martin. But, does anyone else think Vincent Gardenia* has got to be the most un-Jewish Mushnik ever?
And I try to be open minded, but I agree that Ellen Greene is just THE Audrey.

Karry Butler is the ONLY Audry!!!
I was speaking to Franc Luz who played Orin Scrivello the Dentist in the Original Off-Broadway cast and you can not imagine the bitterness and resentment when the name of Steve Martin came up. Wow!
i read or heard somewhere that lee wilkof said he actually cried when he watched the movie cuz ellen was in it and he wasn't...anyone else hear about this?
RICK MORANIS did his own singing.
CurtainUp---
VINCENT ::GARDENIA:: played Mushnik on screen *not* Vincent Green.

KERRY BUTLER cannot hold a candle to ELLEN GREENE as Audrey.
Shesings ---
"that black girl's name" from MARTIN, depending on who you were referring to is:
TISHA CAMPBELL or TICHINA ARNOLD... take your pick they were both in the film.

I loved this movie. I know a lot of people really don't like how they changed the ending, but I think it works for the film. Seeing them die on stage is cool because of the way it happens for the audience. Not to mention you see the actors coming back for curtain call.
However, I think the movie made the characters sadder in a way, and the dying scene wouldn't have worked as well on film. But I don't really know because I never saw the alternate ending.
I thought the casting was perfect. Ellen Greene is the only Audrey for me, even though I like Kerry Butler. I liked how Ellen toned down Audrey on film and you don't really hear her big voice until the ending of Suddenly Seymore.

Tischa Campbell! I cracked up when I realized Martin's wife was a musical theatre girl!

Not only Martin's wife, but her best friend too! I knew "Pam" could sing, but had no idea "Gina" could.
I must reemphasize that Ellen Greene really is the DEFINITIVE Audrey. It is her performance onstage and on film that has made the character of Audrey so memorable - a soft-spoken, ditzy comic book femme with broad shoulders and a surprising amount of depth and pathos; and, of course, a hidden rage waiting to burst, as it does so brilliantly when she starts to belt in "Suddenly Seymore". (Shivers down the spine!)
Every actress who has since played the role has been compared to her (including Kelly Butler - some critics have said that Butler's performance was a poor facsimile of Greene's; poor girl, it's hard portraying a character under someone else's shadow). As Hugh Jackman is to Peter Allen in BFO, or Tanya Pinkins is to Caroline, Ellen Greene is to Audrey.

I like the LSOH movie. I think Rick Morranis is a good Seymoure and Ellen Greene is the one and only Audrey. Kerry Butler doesnt even come close.
The movie is one of the best movie musicals EVER.
yea i agree-i liked it a lot... and i never knew rick moranis could sing. i guess you learn something new every day... having seen the stage version i really disliked the ending-why did they change it? it was fine the way it was on stage!
