I am not that knowledgeable about singing technique  but when I compare both recording, he sounds higher to me in Piazza.

I just wanted to ask if I am mistaken or if he did in a higher key on the older show. Thanks.

as tenors (and sopranos) get older, sometimes their range gets a little lower.

^ it can't be age because he was able to perform the original score   at the light in the piazza reunion concert a couple of months ago the same as back in 2005.

Slightly on-topic and will probably seem nieve but many on here go batshxt when a tune is transposed in either direction to accomodate the range of the artist.

If the melody is not altered, and I'm sure with the composers' permission, what is the major problem?

I have seen purists following the score of an opera in Italy [and not watching the stage] so have wondered what's the big deal?

Is it because you are used to listening to it in a certain key [I wouldn't know a key from a deadlock] and don't like change?

My Mother was a pianist and can remember her having to transpose at the keyboard for many a singer she accompanied for the song to suit their voice and range.

Just asking.

You'd have to ask him abd/or the composer or musical eirevtor. It could be many things including: that's what they wanted -a lower key, he is after all an older character  than the person he played in Piazza; if it is because of Morrisons own voice, singing a higher score for one night is different than singing it 8 times a week!

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I...don't know what you mean.

If you are comparing audio from 2005 to audio from 2015, there clearly has been 10 years of aging. I wasn't at the concert recently so I don't know how youthful or "deep" his voice sounded, but it could be the fact that it's one singer singing two different scores.
