Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a recording of Chicago from the summer Liza performed Gwen Verdon's role?

First... Liza's last name is Minnelli (not Minelli) and no, an official recording of Liza in CHICAGO was never issued/made/released. Liza has recorded several songs from CHICAGO on various recordings, though: "My Own Best Friend", "All That Jazz" and "Me and My Baby".

A recording of Liza as Roxie during her run in CHICAGO does exist, alas... its not an official or legal recording.

Thank you BF123 for responding to my question. Sorry about the typo- fixed. Someone offered to sell me a CD of this and I didn't think it was legit or possibly even in existence. Just wanted to check. So, it's sort of black market? I saw Liza during that run and would love to have a copy of that.

Years ago a pal gave me this recording. I was surprised at how good it was, considering it was the entire show and not just the musical numbers. I enjoyed it and keep it with a few other "oddities" in my collection (Carol Channing and Robert Morse in Sugar Babies).

devonian.t -- you be talking about Liza's run in VICTOR/VICTORIA, when she filled-in for Julie Andrews. "Le Jazz Hot" is from this show, not CHICAGO.

We're talking about when Liza filled-in for Gwen Verdon in CHICAGO back in 1975.

Hey danceallnight. Someone has posted the recording you are talking about on youtube right now. I would post the url but I am not sure if you are allowed to. Anyways just search youtube for Liza Minnelli 1975 Live Chicago. They have All that Jazz, Funny Honey, My Own Best Friend, and a couple more I forget.

Oh goodness... whoever posted those audio-only posts slowed down the speed of the audio that Liza and the orchestra's musicians sound like they're on a few Valiums. What a shame. Why on earth would he tamper with the original speed of the audio?

I have the original recording and the speed is normal AND Liza and the orchestra sound just like they should sound.

I hope people are aware of this error and don't assume that's how the original 1975 Broadway production sounded like.

Thank you for directing me to Youtube, Highbeltingdiva. I agree with Brody that the slow speed is awful. As I was poking around, I also found a clip of Fred Ebb singing Mr. Cellophane on the Dinah Shore show with Liza and Chita chitchatting before he sings. This is a wonderful clip and Fred Ebb is amazing to watch. Highly recommend you check it out!
