i thought this was pretty hilarious. one of the audience spellers spelled MEXICANS as M-E-X-A-C-A-N-S
since this was my first time seeing the show, i wasnt sure if he was TOLD to spell it wrong so they could sing the goodbye song... but then i highly doubted it.
so condolences to the doctor who spelled MEXICANS wrong in front of a packed house.
To be fair to this Doctor, he was probably nervous. I'd know I'd probably mispell the word if I was a guest speller. The Mexicans joke was one of the funniest for me, or one of the easier ones to remember, lol.
"I'm the STAR!"--Daniel Reichard during Glory Daze sound check
I saw the show recently with my acting camp this summer. One of the music teachers was selected to be part of the show, so that was pretty fun for us. Also, I got to meet David Hasselhoff who happened to be at the show!
The only bad thing was that the asian/american girl lost her voice during the show so they had to stop it for a few minutes while they asked David Hasselhoff to come up from the audience and spell a word.
It's live theater, folks!
But anyway, our teacher said that they didn't tell them to misspell words. They were supposed to keep going until they got one wrong. Our teacher was the last audience member standing before they gave him, "xenophlology" or something... Yeah... he got that one wrong.
I've seen it twice, and they spelt mexicans right both times.
However, one of them times, a 10 year old kid was a speller and he had to spell COW and of course he got it right, however they asked him to spell something else and i'm SURE he spelt it wrong, but they gave it to him... and it was SO funny to see the guys reaction (the vice principal) when the kid 'got' it.. then of course they gave him the eye problem one. Which everyone starts w/ a Z but u know it's a X...
they pick the volunteer spellers in the lobby before the show starts and before the house opens. they pick about 10 volunteers but only choose four according to what they need [age, gender, etc.] and theyre just part of the show until they mispell a word
