musical Sunday night after Hamilton matinee?

Hi! I'm new here and can already tell that I'm going to spend lots of time pouring over posts. I booked Hamilton 3 pm Sunday matinee March 26. We are a looong way from Broadway in Alabama, so I want to squeeze as many shows in as possible.

We arrive via Amtrak around 1:30 Saturday, so I don't want to book anything for that evening. School of Rock is high on our list (girls aged 17 and 20), but it starts at 6:30 pm. Can we make it from the 3 pm Hamilton to there in time? Or should I find a show that starts at 7 or later? Or should we forego a show that evening to bask in the glow of having seen Hamilton?

I also have Anastasia Monday night and Hello Dolly Wednesday night. Ideally we will see something Sunday night, Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon as well.

Hamilton is about 3 hours, so you could go straight to School of Rock from Hamilton (it's just a couple blocks up), but you wouldn't have time to eat dinner or anything.

Personally, I'd say Hamilton is a total feast, and one that I personally wanted to let roam through my mind unencumbered for as long as possible. I wouldn't want to jump into another narrative straightaway.

That said, as someone who does hit NYC for 2 show a day trips, I usually try to mix it up as much as possible as far as show selection. So, a play/musical, serious/fun, etc/.etc. The problem is Hamilton sort of hits everything, and perfectly, so as much as I appreciate wanting to see something else... just basking in it is also a good evening.

Isn't Saturday night available instead?

If the train arrives on time, I do plan to try to get tickets to something by going to the box office in person. I'm just afraid to spend that much money in case there is a delay. It's a 22 hour trip.

I wish I'd thought about the schedule more before I bought the Hamilton tickets, but I was just so shocked that they were available that I panicked and gave Ticketmaster my money!

You already have tickets sorted to the stuff that will be sold out, so getting a day-of seat for less-popular shows shouldn't be too challenging. Waiting is often a good strategy. I'm going to NYC Saturday, and I still didn't book my night show... just waiting to see what my best price/show option lines up as premium seats don't move for certain shows...

Who knows if it'll still be onstage in May, but it might be fun to see Spamilton at 7 PM afterward.

Do you think I'll be ok waiting til after Christmas for School of Rock? After I've told the girls about the trip, I can get their input in the planning.

Still plenty of time to make a decision. You could just wait until you get to town or even after the show to see if you feel like seeing a Sunday evening. If you do, check out the TKTS booth or go to the box office of the show you want to see. Or maybe there will be a cabaret show at 54 Below or Birdland announced in the next few months that sounds interesting. You never know what you might find.

The other must-do is School of Rock. I was all pumped for Cagney, Holiday Inn, and American in Paris, but those will be gone. Singing in the Rain would have been right behind Hamilton on their list, but it's been delayed. We've been one other time and saw Wicked, Avenue Q, Mamma Mia, Finding Neverland and On the Town. We're going to see Book of Mormon and Rent in Nashville.

Other ones I know they'd like to see are Aladdin and The Lion King, but I'm rationalizing that those might tour. We're over two hours from the closest city that has touring productions though.

I'd recommend Anastasia, given the ages of your daughters. Do they know the movie? It begins previews on March 23.

Yes, I already have tickets for that on Monday night. That was the movie my older daughter watched over and over again when she was little. I didn't even know it was being made into a play, and the American Express presale was the very day I started researching this trip!

For a REAL change of pace, your daughters might enjoy "Dear Evan Hansen" which is about high school bullying. It got RAVES at the Public Theater earlier this year.

Regarding your open slots for Tuesday evening, Wednesday matinee, and possibly Saturday night - as a father of 3 girls (and given the ages of your daughters) here is a list of shows I would think about in order:

1.Dear Evan Hansen

2.Amelie (assuming it opens)

3.Miss Saigon

4.Ground Hog Day (assuming it opens)

5.Great Comet

6.Come From Away

School of Rock is cute and fun and you guys will like it but I would say the target demographic is a little younger than your girls. Knowing my daughters, they would much prefer something like Dear Evan Hansen or Amelie.

School of Rock is a definite. They loved the movie, have the cast album on itunes, etc. I think it was being promoted when we were there in March 2015, but I could be wrong.

Ooo Amelie has one of the original Hamilton cast members! I may have to go ahead and buy those as soon as they go on sale instead of waiting. And Dear Evan Hansen looks great too. I wish we had the time and money to stay longer and see everything!

I'm reviving my own thread because I see that they've extended Spamilton. How feasible is it to get out of the theater after Hamilton and make it via subway to the Triad for a 7 pm performance? Google says 22 minutes plus time waiting for the train. I'd also have to buy tickets there because I don't want to pay in advance in case we change our minds.
