Hi there!
So I found the casting call for Next to Normal's first national tour on Backstage and it says 18+ for the ages and it's an equity call. I'm 16 and not an equity member. Do you think there's even a point for me trying to go? Please please please somebody let me know because this means a lot to me and I just have no clue what to do!!
Thanks!

No. Usually, only people 18 and older are allowed to go on tour, unless it is truly needed for the show (i.e. Billy Elliott, Shrek)

Being that it's a national tour, they probablly don't want to deal with schooling issues. But you never know.

I would say go for it, but they probably want 18+ for a reason. I would imagine that working with children(as in under 18 ) would be even harder for legal reasons to have on a tour.

For a show like Next To Normal, where it's VERY easy to have actors over 18 play teens, there's a 99% chance they will be casting people over 18. There's less legal issues, no worries about schooling, and they don't have to deal with parents on tour. You should have gone to the auditions for Broadway back in March....if you really want to I'd say show up, ask the monitor about it and then go from there.

As mentioned above, their 18+ is fully merited -- countless actors can play teens. Also, it is cost effective to cast an adult for a teen role for ALL the obvious reasons: no issues dealing with an underage actor AND their 'required by law' chaperone (which means... paying 2 people instead of one); school issues IF they are still in high school, etc.

An adult actor comes "as is". One person. Of legal age. Simple and no issues.

NOTE: Jennifer Damiano turned 18 shortly after NEXT TO NORMAL opened on Broadway. Since the show was a permanent production, there were no issues for her regarding traveling, schooling, etc. She could walk and leave the theatre all by her grown-up little self.

Okay. Thank you all SO much! I really appreciate the help! Sound like I'm just going to have to continue to keep my eyes ears open for other, non traveling auditions and what not. If anyone knows of any opportunities coming up for a 16 year old please feel free to tell me!! Thanks again

I'd say just your regular 16 - 32. It's always good to be prepared to sing and entire song, though.
