it was posted here a bit while ago...
As evidenced by the 1/09/06 date on that article, this is really old news and has been discussed here on the forums already.
The search feature is a really good way to ensure that things aren't doubled posted. Here is the previous thread where this been discused:

I don't want to ruin your enthusiasm, but that is old news, and I hope it's only half true (the Tim Buton part).
EDIT: Wow, three people posting virtually the same thing at the same time. Now that's crazy-crazy.
I hate when people get really upset for posts that have already been posted. New people can access this information and not have to go on here everyday! Thanks for posting this jam_man! This seem intresting and Tim is dark enough to pull this off! Well see boys!

Um, you're welcome, though I didn't really post it, I just referenced the Tim Burton part. Maybe that's what you ment, though.
The other half (in case you haven't followed the link) is Johnny Depp as Sweeney. I'm sorry, I respect him as an actor, I don't doubt he can sing at least a little, but I could NOT see that in a million years. I'd much rather them use the 70-something year old Len Cariou or George Hearn than Johnny Depp. Russel Crowe is starting to look better and better.

New people can also access this information by doing a simple 3 second search and not start a new thread.
The reason that it's bothersome is that everytime a duplicate thread is post every other thread gets knocked back a little further. A simple search could prevent that.
Is it a despicable crime? Of course not - but it is just an issue of courtesy.
However, not everybody is computer literate and a simple search is not all that simple. A lot of times people just want to reignight a flame or story. And people who want to find the post that keep getting pushed back... can just Search for them! Or read this post!
I dare say that if they found this forum that the concept of a search isn't below their level of computer literacy. The word "Search" is also approximately 5 inches away from the words "Post Message", so I don't think it's a strech to have slightly higher expectations from the user base here.
Regardless, it's pointless to argue about it as there will always be the multiple posts and there will always be post padders and there isn't much that can be done to stop it. I was just feeling particularly snarky tonight.
Carry on... Maybe on April 27th we'll meet again and discuss something that I am talking about tonight.
Problem is, doing a search is a MAJOR part of the rules and guidelines for this board. If you don't have the courtesy to follow the simple rules that have been set in place (and there aren't that many), maybe you should find another place to post.
We aren't all perfect--everyone reposts an old topic once in awhile. But if you aren't computer literate enough to read the FAQ, don't post here.
However, this information (about sweeny todd) was of use to me! I am gald itwas reposted because I and a maybe people like me missed out on it the first time. We wont go searching for this information. Another thing i notice is that the search engine can be hard to navigate. I posted a new topic on Musical TV Shows. I was allready posted. I search for it and similar key words and found way too much access post that are unrelated. I think before we jump to the conclusion that the person did not search for the post... we should be curtious and competent to the person posting the message. I am happy I read this post about Sweeny Tood! lets stop with the Post search"nazi" thing and start with kindness. It is not worth making someone feel badly!
