Hi all,
My boyfriend and I are making a city trip in December to see Matilda. We always go to John's Pizza during our city trips, but we want something different. Both of us just turned 21 too, and we were planning on getting a drink after the show. What restaurants would you guys recommend for a pre-show dinner? And what bars would you recommend for a post (or pre) show drink? May I remind you that we are going in the day before NYE so I could only imagine how crowded it's going to be. Thanks!

Personally, I love to hit Juniors, next to the Marriot Marquis, either before or after the show. I always seem to get the best service at the bar, instead of sitting at a table. It's definitely worth the cheesecake.

Not to be confused with Dave19.

In that area I like Carmines and Tony Di Napoli's for dinner. Check them out on yelp or tripadvisor. If you want something fancy, Lamb's Club or Aureole. Lamb's Club also has a really nice bar on the second floor, it is like you are in an old school art deco club. It is on the fancy side .... not a casual drink place. They have live jazz on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

There is a newer place called URBO ... they have two restaurants .... one casual and one fancy as well as a nice bar. The bar has live music on Sunday Monday and Tuesdays

If you like Sushi, we love Sushi Zen

All of these places are near Matilda. Have fun, Matilda is a fantastic show, good choice!

Personally I'm now getting too old for this, but when younger and certainly when I was your age, I'd much prefer to go out for drinks BEFORE the show and then relax with a nice dinner after the show.

No better place for pre-theatre drinks that the upstairs bar at Sardi's, right across from Matilda. (No, I don't particularly recommend eating there, but the drinks are great and reasonably priced, the bartenders are friendly, and you're likely to rub elbows with other theatre folk). A few crackers loaded with horseradish cheese spread might help carry you over until after the show, or you can order an appetizer in the bar.

After the show dinner? I'd go for Joe Allen, the traditional after theatre hangout! You need to book a week ahead, just giving the name of the show and they'll know the time. Angus MacIndoe is good too (I think they've just changed the name to Bistro Angus or something).
