i'm guessing there are spoilers so i'll say it as to not tick of people on this board...

so i was listening to the wedding singer thinking... how long did they actually know each other before they got married at the end of the show???? and what other musicals have quick marriages?

soon to be stage musical... Little Mermaid was like what, 3 or 4 days before they got married?

Miss Saigon was like the next day when they got "married"

Beauty and the Beast... a few months perhaps?

Light in the Piazza... a few days i think

others?

Sorry, I can't fantasize about musical comedies 'pretend' engagement periods...but I think some kind of record for the shortest marriage should go to Ethel Merman and Ernest Borgnine. They were drunk, got married and I believe it was annulled in nothing flat.

Can you IMAGINE how any resulting children would've looked??? OH MY GOD!!!

Unfortunately, all I can think of is long ones. Sound of Music, She Loves Me (do they actually get married in the show?), ...

Bye Bye Birdie (in the show or implied?) - 8yrs+
Momma Mia - 20yrs+

In All Shook Up, they know each other for like 24 hours before getting married.

Gilbert and Sullivan's "Trial by Jury". Adds new meaning to "courtship" as the judge marries the girl within hours.

The Producers, Leo and Ulla know eachother for the time of rehearsals. Which isn't very long, probably a month.

what about suspension of disbelief????

anyways... i think it's funny how in most musicals people get married after knowing it each other for short periods of times... do i buy the romance? yes... i just think it's funny that everyone gets married so darn quickly in these things...

I found a pattern in most musical marrages. After seeing a few musical marrages I realized that the only time a character is marrying another character that they have dated for a long time is when they actually talk about it. Like, they would talk about how they dated this person for a while ect. Whereas if the character meets the character that they end up marrying, It is usually done by the end of the show to give the audience a happy ending. And the time between the dating and the marrage always fits in with the timeing of the show.
