Just got back...the show is as sharp and as witty as ever, if not, more clever. Celia was out tonight but her understudy, Kate Weatherhead was excellent. She took a totally unique and different approach to Olive compared to Celia but it worked very well in it's own way. The only thing I must nit-pick about her performance was her volume. Her pronunciation and clearness was very good but if she was a bit louder, it would have been very great. Still, THE I LOVE YOU SONG once again made me cry simply because of the sheer beauty and simplicity of it and the delivery by all three actors (Derrick Baskin, Lisa Howard, and Kate Weatherhead) was powerful and hypnotizing.

I realized more clearly the sheer beauty of some of the show's moments. And these moments are just so unexpected. Like, during some of the show's songs for each character (Magic Foot, ...Six Langages, I'm Not That Smart, My Friend the Dictionary, M.U.E., Woe Is Me) which are dominantly comical, I felt like crying. Just because you realize that these kids like who they are. They don't care about what other people think or what they say about them, theyre just happy with who they are. It really touched my heart and totally blindsighted me. I had loved these songs the first time I saw it but this time, they just touched me so unexpectedly. And the *SPOILER???* "It's alright, Barf" gets me everytime. *END SPOILER*

The rest of the cast is in fine shape and hysterical as always. I have to put a special shoutout in for Deborah Craig who was very sick it seemed and still made it through the show! What a trouper...Go see BEE if you havent. It's amazing.

In my eyes, it deserved BEST MUSICAL, its so unigue.

Then Light in the Piazza.

Then DRS.

Then Spam.

If it weren't a "controversy," then where would the competition lie? The fact that the competition was so tight this year should be a good thing; that means it was a strong season.

Oh, and of course, Dan Fogler was hysterical. He really seemed to have calm down a bit and become a lot more relaxed and comfortable with Barfee and really allowed himself a lot of leeway to be funny and entertaining and amazingly quirky while not totally upstaging the rest of the great cast. And I love how each character doesn't get their own bow at the end simply because it's SUCH an ensemble piece and effort.

*side note: A large number of people didnt stand up at the end and a few werent even clapping! I mean, seriously what the hell?! I despised Good Vibrations but I stood up and gave a standing ovation at the end because of how much work these actors etc etc have invested in it. I thought it was ridiculous.
