Yeah
My freind worked on Carrie at the RSC and said that the staff found it hysterical but at the same time heartbreaking as they were so many great moments what wrere getting lost in the madness(the show did make a profit for the RSC though)
I also have the company video master copy of carrie filmed in stratford and its easy to forget how amazing some of that show was ,if they could have just worked out the problems with the high school sections it could have worked.
The best thing about Carrie was that it wassnt dull for a second, the whole show is great fun and moves along at a great pace(it could teach some of the new shows about pacing)
One day Carrie will come back
True Songanddanceman2, it was definitely never boring. And I really liked a lot of the music. I'm surprised its never been recorded (excepting for the odd song here & there).
They has been rumbles of a new production in the UK (apparently it did workshop for a week in the UK in sept under the name Prom Night) but nothing has been heard since
I think the use of music tends to soften the impact of a real horror genre story. It happens in opera all the time but if I thought about it it would make me giggle. Typical expample - Rigoletto - the chorus is abducting Rigoletto's virgin daughter to take her to the count to be de-flowered. The chorus basically sings a little ditty about how they need to be quiet - tra la, tra-la. Hard to be melodic and realistically repulsive, I think.

AND EVE WAS WEAK is an extremely powerful, psychologically horrifying number.

theaterdude87 I was totally scared of Tommy too when I was a kid! Haha I think the boy in the mirror sorta freaked me out.
As for really scary show? I saw a production of Jekyll and Hyde where right before Lucy’s death Jekyll appeared really fast behind her bead, and with the lighting and music it was a very cool effect.
Oliver can be particularly terrifying when done right.

Part of the reason why "Carrie" has yet to be recorded is that Pitchford is unbelievably embarrased by the show (Yet not by 'Fame' or "Footloose'). Honestly they are sitting on a goldmine, which Gore and Cohen realize, and would looove to make a profit on. While I would be content with a studio recording, I would KILL for a full-fledged revival with Linzi Hateley as Margaret, Celia Keenan-Bolger as Carrie and Idina Menzel as Miss Gardner.

scariest show i ever saw was good vibrations.
god bless the cast.
several are close friends.
but my god the horror...the horror...
The Pillowman, no matter which company performs it, is scary.
Pitcford is not holding it up anymore(carrie)
I worked with him a few years ago and asked him about Carrie and yes he was a little embarrased but he said he would not stand in the way of a new production he just wouldnt want to have anything to do with it as hes moved on.
Ps Pitchford wrote some songs for Fame the TV series and Film, thats nothing to be embarrased about(Fame film won oscars)
Fame tv show ran for yearsn and won emmys
