im going to NYC for the first time this summer, and I need some shows to see!
I already have a few in mind, but I'd like to see what everyone recommends..

Bridge and Tunnel is great!
But if it is your first
I guess I should be saying Wicked...........................
1. Sweeney Todd is a MUST SEE. It's unlike anything you'll experience on Broadway. A brilliant revival of what is arguably one of the greatest musicals of the 20th century.
2. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee- good if you want a fun evening. Really funny, quirky, smart and thoroughly enjoyable.
3. Avenue Q- not to everyone's liking, but it's a funny, smart, enjoyable show. Very quirky and witty. I loved it.
4. I'm not sure when the show ends, but if it's still on when you visit NYC, you should check out "The Threepenny Opera". It's a very unconventional show, and far from flaweless. But it's one of the most thrilling experiences I've had in the theater this year.
THE HISTORY BOYS! but i'm partial
how about Sweeney Todd? C'est tres brilliant!
best evening of theater in my life

I've heard of Sweeney Todd and Jersey Boys, but I have no clue what they're about
Care to tell me?
Sweeney Todd Synopsis: Based on the 19th century legend of a London barber, who is driven to crime when a malevolent judge takes his wife and child from him. His plan for revenge includes a cut-throat partnership with Mrs. Lovett, an enterprising businesswomen, who is soon producing the tastiest meat pies in London.
Jersey Boys Synopsis: Based on the life story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi. The musical chronicles the lives of a group of blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks who became one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time. It's not your typical jukebox musical--it's more of a rock biography that shows the group's ups & downs through the decades (big hits, women troubles, betrayal, death, etc). Great story & amazing cast! It rocks!

1. DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS
2. AVENUE Q
3. SPELLING BEE
4. THE DROWSY CHAPERONE
5. SWEENY TODD
6. DOUBT
7. THE COLOR PURPLE
8. BASED ON A TOTALLY TRUE STORY
Those are the best 8 shows I could reccomend for any tourist coming to NYC for your first time. Such a flavor and taste in there - picking any of the above 8 you wouldnt go wrong.
I wouldnt spend any money on:
1. CHICAGO
2. RENT
3. BEAUTY & THE BEAST
They at one time may have been great shows, but all three are past their prime and could possibly be a let down after all the hype you've heard.
