me and best friend can't choose between "who will love me as i am" and "i will never leave you"
i like the melody in who will love me as i am better for our voices
but i like the friendship theme in the lyrics of i will never leave you.
which is your favorite?

I think "Who Will Love Me As I Am?" is more universal. I think its easier for most people to connect with... plus, melodically speaking, it's beautiful. I think there's a lot more to work with there... "I Will Never Leave You" is a beautiful song, but it can get a bit tiresome...
It's really up to you, though. Which song do you connect with more? I think that's the most important thing... if you think the latter is a better representation of your friendship and that's what you want to showcase, then by all means, go with that one. :)

thanks Daisy. I agree with you. the melody and harmonies in who will love me are gorgeous. i guess despite the repetitiveness of the i'll never leave you, it makes more sense for our last duet before we graduate and go our separate ways. i just love both of the songs so much i wish i had discovered this show sooner so we would have had time to do both :)

If you decide to sing Who Will Love Me As I Am? avoid the obvious temptation to play it self-pitying. Instead think of a POV like "This is how I am. Who will love me just like this? I can't change and neither can you, so you've got to take me warts and all." Self-pity is great if you're alone, but audiences really get sick of it fast.
I Will Never Leave You can be an anthem. This song can be joyous- "Even though our days together are over, I'll always be right here." If you learn and rehearse the song smiling like a Cheshire cat, it will convey the happiness of this occasion.
As for the repetitiveness, figure out slightly differing POVs for each verse or phrase. Make each lyric count. What does it mean? What is each phrase saying for this moment? Not in the show, but for us, now?
And Dad says that it is "My friend and I..."
Have fun.

LOL I realized my "me and my best friend" mistake after I posted it. Oops. Thank you for your advice, I think we're going to try alternating the phrases in the first chorus of i will never leave you to break up the unison. :)
"Who Will Love Me As I Am?" gets my vote.
