It's said everyone on earth is connected by a maximum of six people. So let's see if that's right. You get two names, first to connect the dots gets to think up the next puzzle (and a cookie if you really need incentive)

ex: Harvey Firestein to Matthew Broderick

Harvey was in 'Hairspray' with Shoshana Bean who took over Elphaba in Wicked along side JLT who plays Glinda formerly played by Kristin Chenoweth who was in 'The Music Man' with Broderick.

There you go.

Now start: Judy Garland to Gary Burghoff

Good luck!

Well....

Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney starred in the film Babes in Arms which was made into a play starring Gary Burghoff.

That might not be right because its kind of short but there ya go!

I nearly lost my mind coming up with this: Judy Garland's daughter is Lorna Luft whose chidhood friend was Leslie Bogart whose mother is Lauren Bacall who was in a film called Pret-a-Porter which was directed by Robert Altman who directed the film version of Mash featuring Gary Burghoff.

Brian Stokes Mitchell was on tv's Trapper John with Lorna Luft whose sister is Liza Minnelli who was in Cabaret directed by Bob Fosse who was married to Gwen Verdon.

It's all about Lorna Luft today!

Nathan Lane was in the producers with Matthew Broderick who was in Music Man with Kristin Chenoweth who originated the role of Glinda in Wicked which JLT took over and is opposite Shoshana Bean.

Sutton Foster to Frank Sinatra?

(Martha Graham from a letter to Agnes de Mille) "There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening That is translated through you into action, And because there is only one of you in all time, This expression is unique. If you block it, It will never exist through any other medium And be lost. The world will never have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, Nor how valuable it is, Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, To keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware Directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, A blessed unrest that keeps us marching And makes us more alive than others."

While the theory is interesting, I doubt that it's possible that everyone is connected like this. It's probably easy to connect stars, but take ME for instance! What's the connection between ME and Shoshana Bean? Actually, when I think of it, I know a guy who's a musical actor, and he's lived in New York and performed on Broadway and... Hmm, maybe it's true after all!

LMAO! How awesome are you? It really does work. And sometimes it gets so crazy that you have to break the 'six or less' rule. But just getting it is the fun part.

My original answer to the first one was Judy Garland's daughter is Liza Minelli who was in Cabaret with Joel Grey who was in Wicked with Idina who was in RENT with Anthony Rapp who played Charlie Brown in the revival and Burghoff was the original Charlie Brown

Now let's see if I can get the next one....

okay, I got David Hasslehoff to Audra McDonald

David was in Jekyll and Hyde with Colleen Sexton who played Lucy which was also played by Linda Eder who cut a highlights CD of J&H with Colm Wilkinson who was in Les Miz as was Susan Egan. Egan was in Beauty and the Beast, playing Belle as did Andrea McArdle who was in Annie with Audra McDonald

this one's a long shot, but I got Frank Sinatra to Sutton Foster too:

Sinatra was in Guys and Dolls as was Nathan Lane. Lane was in The Producers with Matthew Broderick who was in The Music Man with Kristin Chenoweth who workshopped Thoroughly Modern Millie before Sutton Foster took the role to Broadway.

You could also say that Chenoweth played Glinda proceeded by Jennifer Laura Thompson who was in Urinetown with Hunter Foster, Sutton's brother

All right, next up, Ruthie Henshall to Alfred Drake

Ummm.... I hate to tell you this, but Fierstein and Broderick connect up in ONE step:

Matthew Broderick was in TORCH SONG TRILOGY with Fierstein. On Broadway, he played Fierstein's adopted son. In the movie, he played his lover!

Ruthie Henshall played Polly in a Canadian production of Crazy For You which also had in the cast Mickey Rooney who starred in many movies with Judy Garland who was in The Pirate with a score by Cole Porter who wrote Kiss Me, Kate starring Alfred Drake.

I was gonna say that Ruthie Henshall played Polly in a Canadian production of Crazy For You which also had in the cast Mickey Rooney who starred in many movies with Judy Garland, one of which was Babes in Arms, which originally was on Broadway starring Alfred Drake.

The six degrees of separation theory goes back well before Kevin Bacon. It was first proposed in 1929 by a Hungarian writer whose name was Frigyes Karinthy, and you could only use people who were known to each other, even if only slightly. However, who cares how you play it? It's fun.

You are correct about the show business way of playing it. However, it is far more difficult to take two random people and connect them. Several studies have been done on this. For example, a friend of mine today challenged me to connect him to Bette Davis, and I was able to do it within the confines of five or less intermediaries. But, hey, what does it matter? It's just a good game.

holy crap, you're amazing. I love people who know so much about broadway. I envy you!

I think the way you play is much more challenging, for sure. But since I dont' know that much, I decided to play this way.

I say, if you've got the brilliance to play actor to show to actor, do it that way, and if you're like me, do it the original way.

It's a game, have fun!

DDTruit - Anyone who can make this game work with the brief stage resume of Danielle Ferland is a genius!

The reason the Kevin Bacon game is so easy is thay Bacon has been in so many "big" movies with so many actors who've been in so many movies - I mean, you can conect him with almost anyone by just using A FEW GOOD MEN, JFK and APOLLO 13. Ferland has only like five Broadway credits!

my favorite is John Lennon to.....me!

I performed in a View from the Bridge with Waldo Fielding
Who performed a semi-regular Vaudeville act on the Mike Douglas show starring Mike Douglas
Who cohosted with ...John Lennon.

so I have three degrees of separation with anyone who was on the 1970's Mike Douglas variety/talk show.
