a friend and I were extremely bored, so we were trying to think of all the broadway shows we've seen. I just remembered The Diary of Anne Frank.... was that a musical or a play? I can't remember. And who was in it? For some odd reason, I think it was Natalie Portman, but who knows.

A work of art is an invitation to love.

It was a play, and yes, Natalie Portman was in it.

Mm, Natalie Portman. Star Wars.

Wow, I haven't watched that movie in a long time.

I LOVE The Diary of Anne Frank. Linda Lavin played Mrs. Van Daan in that one. I just went to see my old high school perform it. (the same version that was last on Broadway, it's different from the one in the 50's.) It was SO haunting.

YES! and I wish I saw Natalie Portman in the role! I believe her to be a wonderful actress and from what I remember she was well liked in the role. I do however remember the controversy about casting someone as beautiful as Natalie Portman in the role of Anne Frank...who wasnt exactly gorgeous like Natalie. Since we all know what Anne Frank looked like and this is in fact the story of how she spent those two years hidden away in an attic, there were many who thought it foolish to cast Natalie...I disagree. Natalie is talented and the script did not come right out of the Diary...the play is not about her "life story" but about the horrors of hiding away in one of the darkest periods of this world. Good job NATALIE!:)

She was really special in the role, the whole cast was wonderful,George Hearn as her father was heartbreaking.

There use to be a website and I had it saved in my favorites, but it doesnt operate anymore.
My freshmen in chorus we performed a song from the musical version of "Anne Frank" called One Candle. It was pretty...

Wow...I never knew there was a musical version...I've been fascinated by Anne since I was about 10. I'm surprised I haven't heard about it. I remember hearing about the Anne Frank opera. Is this a different one?

I also love the 1950's movie version (with Richard Beymer...I love him...from West Side Story as Peter). It is SO dramatic and typical Hollywood, but if you look past that, it's a fine movie. (You know what I mean, when Peter and Anne hear the Gestapo at the end and they grab each other in a big, sweeping kiss...SO typical of Hollywood to throw in a scene like that.)

Just...very, very fascinating girl and story. I know what you mean when you said the dad was heartbreaking in the Broadway production. You should have seen the kid who played that role in our high school production. WOW. I couldn't believe I was watching a 16-year-old boy. (Of course, he had a perfect accent while nobody in the cast used one, but we'll let that slide...) The last scene of that adaptation is amazing. "This is all that is left..."

I just googled it...Trini Alvarado (she was the oldest sister in the most recent version of Little Women) played Anne. It seemed to have gotten not-so-good reviews. Would have liked to have seen it, though.

New Yorker,
"Yours, Anne" was an off-Broadway production. I believe that there is a recording out there.. though it is rare.
Jessica Grove starred in this show regional when she was 15.. just before doing The Wizard of Oz at MSG with Roseanna

The Broadway production with Natalie was in 1998 I believe. Also starring Linda Lavin.
