Well you should pay because some of it goes to charity and there was a hell of a lot going on what you dont normally get in the Village.
The last night was amazing, the candle lit vigil was incredible seeing thousands of people holding the candles high in the air as they were silent. And the guy from Manchester council who came out as being HIV Positive on the stage in front of 1000s was incredible. Im pleased i got to light a candle and place it in the sand for my friends who i have lost because Aids along the way.
And the protestors and religious nuts outside pride need to get a life.

After reflecting on Pride this year, I didn't really enjoy it. It has not changed significantly for some years and as I get older, I'm not sure it's me. I'm not being miserable and I realise for some, it's there first taste of this kind of freedom of expression. However, I agree with SADM that the entry fee is for the charities (I'm not sure if enough goes there) but I really don't enjoy "the street" as much as I did, I think I've got a compromise for next year, I think next year I'll buy a ticket and not go or maybe go just to the vigil. At least that way, I support the event but don't have to push, shove, get pushed, get shoved, queue and walk in streets paved with beer cans.
Maybe if I'd got chatted to by a couple of fit blokes, I'd have a different opinion. So, see you there next year!!!!
This year was a different one for me because instead of going around all the twink bars like Queer and Manto's etc i chose to not go out with my clubby friends and go out with my skinhead mates so we went to Company, Legends, The Rem etc, it was more just a social thing, meeting lost of new people etc. Im bored of the clubby scene now so chose to just meet mates and hang out, as well as watch the concerts, visit the markets etc
And i agree that more of the money should go to charity

I've always thought there was room for some kind of theatre performance to run during the main weekend. I realise most of the bars are too full during the evenings, but perhaps, like Taurus give space to company's like SADM's someone could give space during the day to do live theatre performance of some sort? Maybe use the quieter stage in Sackville Park?
Oh! I dunno, just something different! If it celebrates diversity, it should celebrate the diversity within the gay community?
And SADM we could have been just a few feet away - I spent most of Sunday in the Company tent! Maybe not, I didn't hear a Sondheim medley!!!!!
lololol ohhhhh i wonder if we bumped in to each other in the toilets lol
We would love to have a show running in Taurus over pride but the nosie would be to loud from the Village. We are going to talk to the organisers about seeing if we could arrange a 1 night performance of a musical in sackville park next year.

That's a brilliant idea. We were only talking the other day about how they should try to provide more theatre stuff over Pride. I like that they try to provide variety through different types of music acts, comedy and cabaret stuff but theatre is a definite lack. More theatre and cabaret and less pretty boys/ girls miming along to backing tracks, thats what i say. :)
I think a musical would go down a treat in Sackville park maybe on the Sunday or Monday afternoon.
While not a Stage Musical as such the Grand Opera House screened the Rocky Horror Picture Show during Belfast Pride this year with an after-show party and it sold out both nights.
