I THINK I remember the casting call for the tour back in 99 saying Dorothy has to sing Over the Rainbow in C. I know that they used the same orechstrations, for the most part, that you get with the license.

It's not low at all. I can't remember exactly what key it's in. But most girls should be able to handle it. If I remember clearly it does go up to about an E.

And please remind your friend that Judy Garland did not belt the song in the movie, so she shouldn't belt it in the audition.

Make is sound pretty!!!

Not sure if it's the same version, but the one I have is in E flat

hehe my area of specialty...
There are a few versions of the show itself floating around.
One is in E-flat major.
One is in G-major (this one is RARELY used as it is quite low, I believe it is the one from the movie).
One is in C-major.
The easiest way to figure out the key is the "some- where" interval. If it's in E-flat, then the octave is E-flat to E-flat.
Hope that helps, have her work on the E-flat AND the C, I doubt they'd be using the G.

I just played Dorothy in August. I've seen it in the key of C and E-flat. The score I had when I was in the show has the song in the key of C.

Yeah it really depends on the version, there are three versions of the musical, each with a different key, in current circulation.
One of them has this awful ending with a rocket ship- it's more based on the actual book and less on the movie. I've played Dorothy for all three :)

Judy, the RSC (John Kane) adaption is the best in my opinion. I DO think the script could use some updating and revisions, but overall, I think it is the best adaption thus far. The MUNY version (with the rocket ship) is the WORST. Which is the third adaption you are refering to? Also, my favorie Over The Rainbow is the one in C.. maybe because I am partial to Jessica Grove and her rendition.
