re: songs that are easy to go flat on

Anything written by Sondheim.

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

The very end of "Who Am I"

"Two Four Six OH OOOOOOOOONNNNNNNEEEEEEEE!"

"Gethsemane," "Heaven on their Minds," HECK the whole Jesus Christ Superstar repetoire. Also, I would like to add "Music of the Night." The last note is held for a while and A LOT of people go flat while holding it.

About Gethsemane...it's hard to go flat if you sing it the way it is written. Webber's JC score is extremely unchallenging and easy. What makes it hard is the ones who sing it like the OCR. They had to scream it, cause the notes are too simple (i.e."I don't How to Love Him is an example, because it is not stylized...just unchallenging.)

I agree with out of your range... raise your eyebrows, if that does not work, stop singing the song!

One of the things I love abot performing is that I seem to go flat ALOT during rehearsals(More when I am learning the song) but if I go out infront of 500 people I will hit EVERY note of the song.

I sometimes get flat on "My Funny Valentine"
But that's because I'm more of a 2nd soprano...
"It's a great feeling of power to be naked in front of people. We're happy to watch actual incredible graphic violence and gore, but as soon as somebody's naked it seems like the public goes a bit bananas about the whole thing."

Jesus Christ Superstar not Challenging? WHAT???? It is very challenging (the male parts). And it is not just the OCR, it is every recording. Guys have to hit ungodly high notes.

That is why I love Caiaphus(sp?) who has to hit ungodly low notes...but at least I can hit them.

re: songs that are easy to go flat on

Just because a singer goes flat doesn't mean they can't sing. People, in general, aren't perfect and no matter how much training or coaching you've had, (::gasp::) you actually might make a mistake! It's human, folks...

A lot of women go flat when trying to belt the final line of "Suddenly, Seymour". "Seymour's... my... maaaaan"... I hear people go flat while sustaining "man". It can be like nails on a chalkboard at times, but they usually get back on pitch after a few beats.

Oh, and any Broadway song sung by Deborah Gibson is flat. ("Nobody is gonna rain on myyyyy... pa-RAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaAADE!")

re: songs that are easy to go flat on

After listening to Idina so much sing anything I get mad confused and go flat when I try singing the song as it was originally written... especially Life of the Party from when she did The Wild Party, Andrew Lippa version.
