Take him to "REASONS TO BE PRETTY". It's not a sport themed show, specifically, but the night I was there, there were a bunch of straight couples (the male parts of which were obviously not big theatre goers) and they were having a BLAST.
no, it was on about 3 seasons ago.
but if you are honestly looking for something "straight friendly", I would say "Rock of Ages" (not sport themed, but it's a jukebox musical of 80's hairbands, and it's a stupid comedy, also, drinks are served at your seats)
and lots of guys get into "August, Osage County" because it's a play about family. It's funny, shocking, and intriguing all at once.
I would say those two choices are pretty straight-boy-I-don't-have-time-for-broadway-because-it's-gay friendly.
Some shows that aren't "girly" and non-theatre goers will enjoy:
Altar Boyz (off-Broadway)
Avenue Q
In The Heights
Jersey Boys
Rock of Ages

there's also always the option of telling your boyfriend to grow and pair and taking him to see what you want to see.

we prefer to compromise

So, does that mean when its his choice to choose the activity he takes you to more effeminate sporting events like figure skating?

yes actually

Oh Poiuyt...welcome to the awfulness that is theatre chat sites. Lots of disappointed chorus boys and never-will-be's.
I hope that you and your man have a great time.

Actually I'm disappointed that I'll never be a chorus boy.

At least some of us aren't so unimaginative that 3 other people had our screen name before us.
My advice is to let your boyfriend go to a sportsbar and take a girlfriend with you when you go to the theatre. You'll have a better time!!

True. Some of us prefer to utilize our originality by doing things, not coming up with pithy screen names. Keep yelling from the sidelines.

Yeah, because my screen name is pithy I must have a creatively bankrupt life. Your uncreative one certainly indicates an inability to master critical thinking.

"Unlike ?Mamma Mia!? and, god knows, ?Xanadu,? ?Rock of Ages? is managing to attract that rarest of species inside an American theater: the middle-class, heterosexual all-American male. I even overheard one who bought his own ticket (which are priced 15 percent to 20 percent below other Broadway shows) and talked his girlfriend into coming, instead of the other way around, which is how every other show gets sold."
Definitely the testosterone driven Rock of Ages.
Chicago Tribune
This is just a list of a few shows that I think the "stereotypical" alpha male could enjoy.
Avenue Q - songs like "The Internet is for Porn" make the show appealing to some men. And a lot of people grew up on Sesame Street and do, kinda, have a soft spot for it. So seeing a sending up of it can be very entertaining.
Rock of Ages - as was stated before it's very popular with men. The whole "rock concert" atmosphere and the classic 80's songs are a big hook.
Toxic Avenger - off-Broadway show that just opened seems to be hitting a home run already. If your guy likes cheesy films then he'll, probably, be right at home at this show.
Hair - nudity
Chicago - gorgeous women in skimpy costumes
Jersey Boys - you have a show that's about guys and you have the mob involved. Odds are he knows some of the songs already. Think of it as the Godfather: The Musical with no one getting gunned down at tollbooths.
Billy Elliot is about boxing. Take him to that, he might learn something about being a REAL man.
Too bad Falsettos isn't playing, that is the best musical about baseball.
If you want something that is a little less girly take him to In The Heights. It's sort of Hip Hop/Latino/Rap and some Broadway for you. I love it and so do all the straight guys I have brought to it. And I'm straight and I love it.

I never thought I'd enjoy watching boxing. Billy Elliot changed that.
