Does anyone remember this? I think it was only a touring production. I saw it in St. Louis at the FOX THEATRE in like march 07 or something like that...
there was no orchestra recorded music on CD..
s they put exptra chairs over the covered pit...
i had very front row...
there was NO singing/dialogue. it was basically a ballet with dancing telling the story. I thought it was amazing...
it had really cool sets and costumes...
it was just a magical production! :) for no talking, you never got lost in the story once! did anyone else tsee the production. I thought it fantastic and I think they need to tour another production of it or have on broadway.

Matt Bourne's dance theatre productions/adaptations are pretty controversial it seems (or maybe it's just cuz I'm a big ballet fan and post on ballet websites) but I'm a big fan of nearly all of them.
http://www.new-adventures.net/ is the site for his dance company and should give you info about any tours of productions, etc. I know the most recent one is Dorian Gray which is doing very well.
Edward Scissorhands WAS filmed I heard but they're not sure when a DVD release will happen--probably depending on other productions (the only three of his dance pieces on DVD sadly are his Dicken's orphanage take on Nutcracker, The Car Man a film noir mixture of Carmen and Postman Always Rings Twice and of course his most famous work the "all male/gay" Swan Lake). If you are interested, I'd recommend picking up Swan Lake first--it was pretty iconic (and had a successful Broadway run) and the North American DVD release has been discontinued so it's starting to become hard to find.
You can get a CD of the full dance work's score for Scissorhands though.

It isn't "basically a ballet," it IS a ballet.
I saw it towards the end of the recent run at Saddler's Wells this past January. I didn't like it that much; rather, as much as the people who accompanied me did.
It was pleasant enough, the stage pictures were pretty, but the music was too generic Danny Elfman and the choreography was too generic Matthew Bourne.

Posted: 2/3/09 at 10:22amI saw it at BAM and was basically transported. I thought it was just terrific and at the time thought that it should be one of those shows that's brought back annually at the holidays like 'A Christmas Carol.' Blew me away, really.

I'd all it a dace theatre piece--certainly a LOT of ballet goers and dancers would object (and have) to it being called a ballet, and Bourne is careful to never refer to it as such. But if ballet means ANY dance piece with no speaking than yeah, it is.
People seem to either be big Bourne fans or... not. I love his work, though less so in musical theatre.
