Hello! I'm making my first trip ever to see some broadway shows in NYC next week! (6/14-6/17) I was planning on trying to Student Rush/Lotto:
Next to Normal
Promises, Promises
A Little Night Music
BUT do you guys think N2N and ALNM will already be sold out because of the changes in cast members coming soon? I really wanna get the chance to see Angela Lansbury, and I'm trying to decide if I should buy tickets online now...
ANY HELP would be appreciated! And Thank You in advance! :)
N2N won't be sold out. But plan to rush NIGHT MUSIC. Buy tix online for PROMISES.

Just FYI, rush for Night Music is standing room, so you'll be standing for close to 3 hours.
But if you rush for an evening show of Night Music, you'll have your ticket by 10 and can nap in the middle of the day (depending on your plans). When I did it in January, I woke up at 7, was in line (first in line) by 8 am, waited til 10, got my ticket, waited in TKTS for Next to Normal matinee tickets, saw N2N and then stood for Night Music for three hours. It really wasn't too bad at all! Seeing Angela Lansbury onstage was invigorating enough for me that it kept me up and alert!

May I ask why you do not recommend rushing Promises,Promises, is it because of the tony buzz? I was planning on rushing it in july, do you think it will still be crazy busy then?
PROMISES has been on TKTS all week, and althouygh selling well is far from sold out.
ALNM seems to be selling well as it heads into the final weeks with its 2 stars.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
awesome! Thanks for all the advice!
so, i'll rush N2N. go to TKTS for Promises. and by "ALNM seems to be selling well", do you mean there's a high probability it will be sold out? maybe i'll just order Night Music ticekts online...
ALNM will probably be sold out, but their rush is standing room and is sold on the day of the performance, even if they are completely sold out of seats. If you don't mind standing for close to 3 hours, you can definitely plan on rushing ALNM. Just get there early (8 AM-ish) to guarantee yourself tickets.
Thanks so much for all the helpful comments :)

Wouldn't the rush seats for Promises be better than what could be gotten at TKTS?

instead of starting a new thread i'm just gonna post on here.
I'm going next week and was wondering how crowded the next to normal lotto has been? and also about promises promises, the rush tickets are cheaper right? That's what I'm going for, the cheapest tickets.
And also, how's the addam's family and american idiot rush been? Thanks in advance!

"Wouldn't the rush seats for Promises be better than what could be gotten at TKTS?"
Not necessarily. Sometimes close to the performance time, house seats get released to tkts. Or other seats can pop up there. When I did lottery for Million Dollar Quartet a few weeks ago, the girl drew names only for the order in which we would line up as there were more seats than people trying needed. The people in the center of the row (4 of them) had gotten their tickets at tkts once they were sent over after the lottery was finished.

But what I mean is, does Promises set aside seats like, for example Wicked, or is it best available for that night?

I think it's whatever's available since there have been reports from early previews of them not having any. Seems like most people are reporting mezz seating with rush.
Almost always, the only shows that set aside tickets for day-of sale are shows that have ticket lotteries (like WICKED) or standing room. Rush is almost always subject to availability and not guaranteed. (The only recent exception I can think of is A STEADY RAIN, which set aside certain rows in the back for student rush.)

That's what I thought Yero. There have been some shows that did set aside certain seats for rush, but even then it was subject to availability (next to normal for example, when they had rush, used front row for house seats during press week so those rush seats were moved to other locations on those days.)

Yeah, shows like that have a certain section for rush, but if they sell out at full price, they won't hold those rush seats aside.
It's the difference between selling any available seat for $27 and selling any seat in the last two rows for $27. Different shows have different systems, but most will still sell those seats at full price if they can, and then won't have any rush available.
