what's the difference between equity and non equity?

Equity is the Theater actors union. In order to be on Broadway, you must be a member of Equity. In order to be a member of Equity, you must be cast in a Broadway show.
Scratch that - you must be cast in an Equity show.

Or an Equity tour, or any Equity show that is not on Broadway.
In order to be a member of Equity, you must be cast in a Broadway show.
Completely untrue. There are plenty of non-Broadway Equity productions.
Wow, edited for a really dumbass word reversal. The flu is messing with my brain. Hopefully anyone who read "non-Equity Broadway productions," knew what I meant, since that would also have been completely untrue.
emcee is right, whether it is on or off broadway has nothing to do with it, or thats what i thought anyway...if someone could clear that up it would be appreciated.

OT: Yero my Hero, would your avatar be of the boy who beat Britney Spears (or was it Christina) on Star Search?
Bravo.
Hence my signature. Yes. Also known as Marty Thomas, original cast member of WICKED and XANADU (and fiercest Broadway diva around).
Get the **** out!
HAhahaha
I've watched so many of those specials of pop stars when they were little and the clip of him beating her is on EVERY one of them.
Yeah, I've seen that clip on VH1 a million times. When I found out a few weeks ago that it was Marty Thomas, I immediately Youtubed it and decided it needed to be an avatar.
