I got my tour cast recording of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the mail today and I just wanted to post about it in case anyone was wondering the same things that I was. Personally, I don't have any issues with either Patrick or Amy except that I enjoyed Amy's performance so that's all I'd really like to say about them. The supporting cast is all acceptable. The orchestrations are not the same ones that were used for the LA, London and Canadian revival cast recordings. I could be wrong but, I'm pretty sure those all used the same orchestral tracks. These tracks are new.
It's not a complete recording as it is missing the "One More Angel" dance music and the apache dance music in "Those Cannan Days". It's also missing the second verse in "Go, Go, Go Joseph" as well as some other small cuts sprinkled throughout the recording like "Give Me My Colored Coat". That song is listed as being included, but the track ends with the reprise of "Any Dream Will Do" and no finale. It runs at 61 minutes. I haven't seen the show, so maybe those things were cut in the actual show, but in terms of completeness the DVD soundtrack is still the most complete recording. It doesn't come with lyrics, but it does have a lot of color production photos so that's cool. If you want another Joseph CD on your shelf this one isn't all that bad. It's neat that they recorded a national tour.
You can purchase a copy here.

Hi -
Can you post (or pm me) the label, catalogue number, and name of the distributor?
Thanks,
Mark
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
Not to change the sub, but you were able to order it online? Do the Joseph tour have a website?
the CD is available to purchase at http://www.thebroadwaycollection.com but as I said I purchased mine from a seller on Amazon.

Oh I don't think so.....I have two cast recordings in English, and one in German...and NONE of them cost $22.......so no thanks.

Well the cut music is in the show, still. The "Give Me My Colored Coat" after ADWD however, is not in the show if its the same as previous Troika tours. The Narrator and Joseph sing the final "Any Dream Will Do..." and the show ends/Megamix begins. Give Me My Colored Coat comes in at the end of the Megamix.
It works.
I guess. I bought mine from a seller for less then ten bucks and that was with shipping. now the one on Amazon is 34 dollars...

Which does everyone think is the best recording?

Probably the DVD. With Donny Osmond and Maria Freidman, you can't go wrong. Plus, as CATS said, its the most complete.
