hiya kiddos!

hey Bree Daniel, loved you in Klute, but although I can understand why I might seem like the ultimate shill, all I can do is promise you that, when it comes to news regarding HAIRSPRAY, I post here to tell the truth (which is also the name of the TV show that begins the film CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, which, Bestof Broadway, would make a wonderfully entertaining yet emotional and multi-layered musical).

Like for instance; Mr. or Ms. localonecrew often seems to have a real inside track to information, but it is usually a fractured version of gossip and also almost always premature.

Which is the only thing wrong with Broadway.Com's announcement of Michael McKean being cast. Paul Wontorek (love the above board name), I ADORE Bway.Com, couldn't start my day without it (and LOVE the photos, Bruce) BUT, I don't know why you get so indignant when people point out the difference with rumor/gossip and fact.

as in: announcing Michael McKean was truthfully premature. He hadn't even been seen by the director. The other actors up for the role (all wonderful) had to possibly read about not getting the role of Edna at THIS time from online (YES, people DO read the Internet) as opposed to officially hearing it from the proper channels, which is not the nicest way to hear about your future employment.

I'm not that naive, we all know information gets out there and will get written about and speculated on, but all you guys 'in the know' (I'm not being facetious with those quotation marks) should at least say "rumor has it" as opposed to "it's a done deal".

and speaking of shilling, watching last night’s performance in Chicago by the touring cast of HAIRSPRAY was thrilling. We thank our lucky stars for this cast (from top to bottom) AND the band! We cannot believe the good fortune we have had in finding new cast members for our show in all the companies so far. Bravo to Bernie Telsey and Craig Burns.

oh , and speaking of facts and shilling, let me also say...Open Calls are NOT publicity stunts as some say here, we have cast quite a few people from them!

as Edith Ann would say "And THAT'S the truth"!

Marc

p.s. and yes Mr. Dente, that is DEFINITELY the truth! re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re:

p.p.s I can't wait to see the under forty crowd asking "Who's Edith Ann?" Oy, I suddenly feel so...old!

Dang, tossed out on a technicality. Again.

But then, maybe you're telling us there's exactly one top and one bottom in the cast? And everybody else is chased. If you will.
