1. it was a done deal
2. if you dont want this info to get out, tell the people involved to keep quiet
3.if you are upset by information being released too early then i suggest you write to every newspaper and tv station around the globe cause it happens everyday.

1. it was a done deal
it wasn't when Bway.Com reported it as fact...just like MANY of your "scoops"
2. if you don’t want this info to get out, tell the people involved to keep quiet
this is where the naive part comes in, but it would be nice if "word in the theatre" stayed just that, the way you wouldn’t go around posting info about family matters...that's how I view the people working in the theatre, as an extended family, PROTECTING each other from unnecessary gossip...I guess you don't agree
3.if you are upset by information being released too early then I suggest you write to every newspaper and TV station around the globe cause it happens everyday.
so, that makes you feel better about doing it? I'd like to put you in touch with anyone who had to learn ANYTHING about his or her life and/or livelihood from reading it in the paper. It's not a very nice feeling.
How about you post your name along with all your precious info?

1. i didnt report it when bway.com did. i waited until it was a done deal
2. i do agree it would be nice if people kept quiet, however they dont. if there is one thing i have learned its that theaters are huge gossip mills. dont blame the messenger.
3.my intention was not to hurt anyone, just to post something that was common knowledge to alot of peopple and was going to be public information moments after i posted it anyway
as to my name it would mean nothing to you anyway as i told you when you asked me in a PM.
relax, it isnt that big a deal. i love your work and hope you continue to prosper.

re: i do agree it would be nice if people kept quiet, however they dont. dont blame the messenger.
Well in this case you were the source and messenger, so anyone "could" blame you, couldn't they? Not saying you were the one who originally leaked it, but you had a choice to keep that information private or not. You chose to post it for the world to see.
If the press office had ASKED you to post the info and there was an outcry, you'd have a point...
Craig,
If you're so worried about information being properly released, maybe you shouldn't be working for a website that encourages people to spit out any piece of knowledge they know, confirmed or not.
Just a thought.
Paul
Paul-
Where in my post do you see any worry. I was responding to Local's post about being the messenger. And for your edification, this SITE doesn't encourage people to "spit" any knowledge they know. Part of this site is a message board that has a life unto itself created by the posters who use it, such as yourself. When information has been posted that is questionable (re: show closings), we have always done our best to contact the production to verify information and delete those messages as needed and required.
Just my thoughts.
Craig
Just to give some perspective to Local One crew and his "inside information", remember this post?
"the producers of the off-broadway production of raisin in the sun have booked the Shubert Theater starting in April. Guess the gypsy folk realize its not gonna run after bernadette leaves."
localonecrew,
You're right, lets both relax. Let's both stick to what we do best. 99% of my postings here the last month have been to clarify unfactual reports posted both here AND BROADWAY.COM. And although my request for your name wasn't for my personal knowledge, but for you to show conviction regrading your newsflahes, I will gladly refer to you as LOC.
And Paul, c'mon, join LocalOne and I. It'll be fun!! I won't even ask you to finally just admit that you reported Michael McKean was the next Edna before he had even been seen by our director. Or that me thinks you doth protest too much to Craig, since your posts here prove without a doubt you get the same nutty thrill reading this board as I do.
Come on now, group hug! Come on...awwww, come on Paul,...that's good!

Marc
Marc,
Can you please document, say, five unfactual reports from Broadway.com in the last month that you've had to clarify on here? Unfactual is the key word.
McKean was in talks, Jack O'Brien meeting or not. So that one doesn't count.
P.S. I'm allergic to group hugs with anonymous people!
Paul
oh Paul.
all it takes is one. Your ORIGINAL post on Michael was simply premature, no two ways about it. Finding out about Michael's availabilty and interest is no different than the same questions asked of the other actors who were up for the part.
The same actors who might have read your article and went straight to Angus' for a good stiff drink
what say we move on...I won't write another word, except to answer any other point you need to make that applies to HAIRSPRAAY casting.
Truly Paul, I adore your site and this one, especially when they adhere to and spread a love of theatre, which yours does 99.9% of the time. Especially when you quote that fabulous lyricist, Marc Shaiman, I LOVE him!!! He is FABulous!

C'mon Craig...it is a click away...Paul could be gone! DO IT!! And I thought Namo was an idiot.
Please excuse the newcomer to this thread. Who is Paul and what website does he represent? I'm assuming from his icon that it's Broadway.com. Correct?
Not to join the fray, butI don't think that story WAS premature. Broadway.com wrote that McKean was IN TALKS. Not offered. Not HAD the part. Just in talks. Turns out he got it in the end and they wrote another story saying so. That's fine by me.
What I find far more upsetting are people who post reviews the first night of previews on message boards. Let's talk about that!

Yes...so why is he here? Like I said before: no wonder the Bway.com message board was shut down. He started all of the commotion!

Im sure all the big boys here can play nice.

I think he runs the Orfeh.com website.
Fine. Just avoid words like "infactual" when describing my site. At what point the McKean deal was at when the story went up is up for a lot of discussion, but it's pointless. I had a solid source and it wound up being true. And the original story did NOT say anything untrue. Sure we could have written two or three other stories about people in talks for the role, but I knew McKean was your man.
Broadway.com adheres to and spreads the love of theater 100% of the time. Writing an excited, factually-correct story about the new leading man in your Broadway musical? What's not to love about that?

More amusing than Paul Wontorek posting his rant on here is the fact that Mr. EDITOR IN CHIEF who is questioning propriety makes up a word such as "unfactual" in his post.
And how is what Marc, Localonecrew, Craig, or what any other poster has posted on this thread any different than you Paul? You were so quick to jump on this thread and on others to dispel rumors and gossip. Pot meet kettle.
See we can move past our troubles, we are FAMILY, I've got all...uh sorry. The magic of a shared communtiy of theater loving folk and the addictive nature of this forum is making me really want to move out of my parents basement and make it in the big city. I always enjoy the features on your site Paul, but as a steady date Rob and Craig put out way more, and Mr. Marc FAB Shaiman look for one of my beloved buttkissin' PM's soon! Seriously, no more early casting dish, no more nasty, here's to some more "above board posting"! Ever since I did it I've gotten, two bootleg cd's, three dinner dates, and one case of something the cortizone won't make go away! HERE'S TO THE THEATER!
I was quoting Mr. Shaiman with the word unfactual. I should have put it in quotes. As for your other comments, you're missing the point. And Orfeh.com, mamamiasammy? Who's got the time?!
Don't you all see how childish and ridiculous this board is? Look at how these discussions spin out of control. Shaiman, I'm just emailing you next time. Have fun with your teenage fans.

What makes this site and this message board great is the differing opinions. I have no problem with this thread or the questions and comments it raised.
"click-delete" is not even a consideration.

I understand that, but all he does is yell at people when they talk about his site. Whenever Bway.com is mentioned, he pops out of his hiding place.
The only thing Craig will "click-delete" is my ego!
