Posted: 12/13/04 at 3:37pmHmmm... new songs? This could potentially be a good thing if they are being written to replace the old ones.

from carpeperdiem:
We are making concept albums for 3 primary reasons:
1. we can make a great recording, without regard to the physical production; we can cast a singer who does not meet requirements for the physical production - casting is only based on recording sound and vocal performance - additionally, the sound of the orchestrations is not limited by the size of pit orchestra or what works in a theater. Certain types of sound simply do not work in the theater, but are spectacular on recording.
2. we can cast the best recording artists. let's face it -- not every stage actor is the best film star... same goes for recording. Stage and studio are different animals and the best recording artists aren't always the best stage actors and vice versa. I know you love your OBC - but please keep an open mind... we are making something that is not a "snapshot" of the stage show... we can use modern studio techniques - just as a film does not simply start a camera and tell the actors to do the show or scene from top to bottom...
3. costs are lower, which means it is more likely to get made because the investors are more likely to recoup their investment.
We expect the Dracula concept recording to be completed within a few weeks - add 2 weeks for CD duplication and by mid-January, you will hear what this is all about. We are very excited about how the score is being recorded and the performances are spectacular -- very different than the stage... but perfect for THIS recording. If you like the music of Frank Wildhorn, you will love this recording.
